I've been memorizing this work for years. Every time I recite it I gain some new insight. I haven't heard anyone else discuss this work before so I owe you thanks for some of the background.

Really excellent presentation, thanks! With one point of argument. The Romantic Age (1800-1850) was not so repressive as one might think. Repressive yes, by modern standards, but not repressive in the context of the times. Before the Romantic Age came the Enlightenment, which put forth science and reason (as opposed to Biblical truth). The Romantic age stressed the arts, poetry and, human passion in place of Biblical truth. But in both eras, people were questioning, just in different ways. The era that came before the Enlightenment was the Great Awakening, which was very religious, like a second wave of Puritanism.

I appreciate your effort in explaining Blake's work, but to listen to 'you know' all the time, is pretty disturbing.
