This isn't trying to devil's advocate, but could it be possible that the word "tits" was on that list of words you can't say on TV? They've gotten a bit more lax now, but 10 years ago there was a lot more things that got censored or blurred if written out. At this time I believe Drag Race was on Vh1, so it was a cable TV program, so it would ultimately adhere to TV rules even if offered on other secondary platforms, although if they wanted they could've produced the "unedited/uncensored" episode like they do now, and with the Untucked episodes. Even if that's the case, which is likely, they probably should've seen how it looked and did something that says "Hey, we aren't trying to hide your trans identity, it's just a banned word we can't air, so let's do this instead..." If this theory is completely wrong though, then that's fucked up on their part.

@@cypruslavigne7419 I believe they did something similar to Peppermint on S9 - she either had to stop her transition or basically hide it or something along those lines. At least they had the basic courtesy not to make RP deadname her on national tv. I might be misremembering things, though. If not, I think we have a pattern.

To my best knowledge, Drag Race was a non-union production at the time. It saves the company a lot of money, but it also means you can get away with a lot more mistreatment of cast and crew. Willam, having been a working TV actor, was absolutely a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild at this point. He knew how good, safe sets were supposed to operate and saw one that wasn’t. The other queens were being taken-advantage of but perhaps didn’t want to say anything because they though this was their “big break” or they were simply so green to Hollywood they didn’t know better.

I think it is still a non-union production. The contestants have to sign a contract not as performers but as portraying themselves, so the show isn't obliged to union protocols/rules. Pretty shady if you ask me.

I met Willam at a bar in LA and he was the nicest. Everyone was taking pictures with him and all that and I was getting a drink. He legit went out of his way to say hi and ask me how my night was going and if I was taking anyone home. One of my best interactions with a drag race queen.

Because they are empathizing with the girl and not Willam. They probably see themselves more in a fan who pushes the boundaries of queens versus a person who is dehumanized as a product of fame and notoriety, as that doesn’t feel like a possibility in their own life. They don’t imagine themselves in the queens position, so they can more easily see themselves in the thiefs. That’s my guess Atleast.

Willam’s “no nonsense” attitude is the healthy attitude towards the industry and the role that talent is playing in that industry. The audience can see a show that *looks* degrading or painful, but the people working to make the show should always have the actual support and resources to do the show without getting hurt and they should always get paid.

Like it's one thing if a reveal or something gets stuck and you help detach it, or is tangled up and you help them get lose, or just help move something out of the way (one night I fully relaced a friend's shoe while they were singing on stage, like all the way up her leg, and kept having to do it all night after she got a bit drunk), but then immediately give it back as soon as the number is over. That wasn't the issue. Willam had asked an audience member to rip her dress off as part of her number. However, afterwards the fan or whoever was near enough to the dress to snatch it, never gave it back.

Willam's humor and character sometimes doesnt appeal to me and it's ok. What I admire the most is her sincerity and kindness towards other queens and I think that is the true Willam. She'll say something to cause drama but when someone is being treated poorly, she shows her true self wanting to protect those queens she worked with.

I used to be such a Willam fan but the constant “berating”/negative comments about Drag Race and Ru really irked me but we can’t deny that she is a true sister for those who need help. Sidenote: I watched A Star Is Born with a friend and we were so disappointed that they used Willam and Shangela in about 2-3 scenes, and that was it. If memory serves me right, they barely changed costumes in the scenes they were in. I thought they’d have somewhat of a huge role but it felt like they were relegated as plot fillers.

Willam is such a necessary voice in Drag Race. We need somebody out there actively calling out things rather than just kissing ass. Can confirm Willam always calls out things, even the small stuff! I went to a show years ago and there was a meet&Greet where he made sure no one skipped the line and that everyone was getting equal time(someone was lingering when it was their turn and they got told to move on along so he could get to everybody). He had also asked my name during the set as the lead up for a joke, remembered me when we took a photo and then thanked me by name on the IG post I made. He didn't have to do all that and I really appreciated it!

Willam is only controversial because she does NOT take shit home, she ain't scared of backlash for doing the right thing. I'll always appreciate her concern over Mathu and how she called out RuPaul for not caring enough about someone she worked and considered a friend for years.

I bumped into Willam recently (May 2022) out of drag in Manchester, UK. One of the nicest famous people I've ever met. He asked me how my day was and he asked me if I wanted to take a photo with him and beat the drag fest queues where I was going the next day - I was too shy to ask for a photo so I'm so happy he said that! I'll never forget how personable and kind he was and I know he'd been on the road all over the place for so long and must have been tired so didn't need to give me that time during his down time. I don't think he'll ever realise how much that experience meant to me ❤ Willam is such a talent and I am glad he uses his voice to speak up. ❤

With regards to Willam not ending up in AS1 - they revoked her casting because Phi Phi was arrested and could no longer be on the season, and they wanted them to be on the season together for the obvious drama. So I do think it's weird they didn't use him in AS2 since they brought back Phi Phi.

I was with a producer of the show in a tent and he came in to get something, he said I looked cool as shit and asked if I needed to find any nicer shoes 😂. Willam is possibly the most fascinating person to ever be seen on the show Imo. Like hes such a chaotically neutral person, fiercely intelligent and a good friend while also being very guarded.

Willam is genuinely caring and so so protective of Drag Queens.. I had the privilege to share the stage with her when she was in India . She didn't know me.. but she helped me set my cheap ass wig.. At one point she actually called security to escort a man outside who was body shaming another fellow drag queen. 👑

Willam is classic Philly. Will read you raw but always has your back if someone mistreats you. One of the nicest queens ever through the club I managed, and the local queens who shared the dressing room confirmed.

I love your approach to "drama" as more factual news. You don't overly sensationalize and actively try to debunk a lot of gossip. It's deeply appreciated

I was last in line at Willams line in drag con, and she was one of the nicest famous people I ever met. Smelled like poppers and complimented me and my bf, gave me a hug. I was so flattered and am an even bigger fan

Gotta love a queen who is seen as controversial and in drama not for saying or doing anything actually problematic but simply for speaking her mind and not taking bullshit. Willam walking out of Glee because of Lea Michele is iconic.

i think willam fills an important role. we need to be willing to call out when things arent right, but the very real consequence is you're seen as "difficult" and no longer get the same opportunities.

I haven't loved everything Willam has done, but I think overall his heart is in the right place and I love that he advocates for other queens. I also don't ever remember a time when he didn't own his bullshit 100 percent. It shows a lot of character on his part imo

I wish they'd do a Drag Race Bad Girls edition. It'd be great to bring in all the good TV girls for a season and watch the drama. Willam would win and stir the part.

Willam saved my life. I was such a lost little gay boy back in 2012/2013, and finding her during her KZread heyday changed me forever. Before Willam I honestly never even knew it was possible to not only be gay, but to be totally 100% out and pround, and on top of that, look sickening and enjoy the hell out of life while doing so. Before Willam the only kinds of gay lives in the media I knew were wholly negative, depressing and unrealistic, perhaps serving as some cautionary tale. Seeing that crazy drag queen tear into stupid KZreadrs in the Beatdown gave me LIFE, let me tell you, and gave me confidence to be myself - lame or as cliched as that sounds. If you ever read this Willam - thank you.

I feel when it comes to Willam, it's not trouble making, it's simply not taking fuckin shit from people. But then people start making you look like the bad guy, and if you're clever about is (as Willam was) people realise you actually aren't the bad guy. When I was younger watching season, I didn't like Willam, can't lie. But as time had gone on, I now like her. She knows her worth, she doesn't take shit.

I-- I’m still confused why they were drugging him. My mind goes to the worst case scenarios and I hate that.

Especially when they said that he consented to them drugging him and NEVER gave an actual reason for him wanting them to. That’s suspicious. Like why tf would he want you to drug his drink, and if he wanted drugs why would he want you to put it inside a drink instead of just normally? Most people do not consume drugs through drinks consensually.

I have so much respect for Willam. She just does not let anyone shit on her nor will she let any bigoted/evil shit slide. I simply have to stan

Willam is an actual real nice person who has a very good reputation with their peers, as well as the fans. I always appreciate Willam answering several of my questions back in his tumblr days, it would make me really happy.

Willam and Alaska's relationship is all the proof one needs. Both are polar opposites in the RPDR lexicon and yet they are business partners and friends. A business that supports queens. Don't think that would be so unless they were cut from the same bad-ass cloth. Willam just doesn't play games that are rigged and doesn't take shit. That's why I love them and always will. 💗✨

Willam was in NYC a few weeks right after S4 finished airing and was fundraising by helping to sell grilled cheese on the streets of NYC at 1AM - don’t ask lol… He posted his location on Twitter earlier that night so when I jumped on Twitter and saw the tweet a couple hours later I RAN several blocks because the event ended around 12:30 and when I got to the location looking all around and FINALLY I saw a gorgeous 6 foot+ blonde wrapping up the event. I approached Willam and he was SUPER friendly and down to earth and I explained the guy I was dating was his #1 fan but he was home sleeping due to work the next morning. I asked if I can call him and have Willam say hello and he agreed. We called but no answer.. so Willam left him an amazing voicemail message. I haven’t spoken to the guy in years but I remember this being so special for him and have nothing bad to say about Willam - great soul ❤️

Every time I hear DB say "Ppl Died!" and Willam correcting her saying "Nobody died" I giggle. I will ALWAYS have love and admire Willam because not only is she the reason why I fell in love with The Artistry of Drag(I loved Ru as well for a long time, until Willam, Pearl, etc., came forward with how they was treated by/let down by Ru and how she does ppl who are supposed to be considered her good friends, but it's very easy to tell that fame and money has changed her and when it comes down to having Willam or Ru fight for me, I'd choose Willam? She's defended more human beings and seems to care more about POC than Ru does and she's one of us)but she hasn't needed or used DR to start or solidify a career, and she should've gotten an Emmy for the character "Cherry Peck" from Nip/Tuck. I'm pretty sure it's a very good show but I'll admit that I only watched it for Willam? I'm biracial and my little Black grandma loves Willam too, she said Willam's invited to the BBQ.

Willam got me into Drag Race. I found out about her through her music and the KZread algorithm, did some digging and discovered that she was on RPDR. She's extremely talented and has her heart in the right place. Hands down the #1 star in the entire franchise.

His humor is absolutely insane And I will never forget her elimination (disqualification) beyond iconic And she kept her cool absolutely impeccable during any argument especially with phi phi during untucked 😮

Watching "Beatdown" is like eating potato chips late at night, when you know you have to be up early the next day. It seems so wrong, but it feels so right! You just can't stop. Just one more...

Okay but I've met Willam and she is just so professional and the most respectful performer I've interacted with. She was the frontliner and she declined taking a photo with me back stage during the performance of another new queen so as to be respectful. and I was like damn, yeah you're right!

Willam is such a legend. I really admire how she knows her worth and refuses to be mistreated on sets. I have some problems with things she's said in the past, but she's a human being with flaws and she has a good heart

Great video. Could you please do one on Sharon needles? She comes across really well on her season but apparently that’s not what happened behind the scenes. Your videos do such a thorough look into the background it would be amazing if you could do one on Sharon Needles so I would finally know the whole story

Funny how you are asking the creator to make a video so we can tear down a queen who is already “cancelled” by the fandom. It’s funny coz Sharon is literally one of willam’s closest friends in real life. If you listen to their podcast willam & alaska hardly go 5 episodes without mentioning Sharon endearingly.

In a world full of RuPauls, be a Willam.

I’ve meet willam multiple times and he is the nicest queen I have ever met. always personable, kind, and will talk to u for a long time.. even if u see willam outside of a club or dragcon he’ll talk to u. best queen to have a meet and greet with. I’ve meet many and many of queens going to dragcon to.

I met Willam before and she truly cares about her fanbase, people who care for her and is genuinely caring. She is my favorite queen to ever be on the show. If more people acted like her the world would not be so corrupt or chaotic.

William is a great drag queen and person. I saw her for my very first drag show, probably about 8 or 9 years ago. I was up front and she was just a blast. She made sure to interact with me a lot and even responded so kindly to my excited posts about it the next day on Facebook AND Tumblr. I'll never forget, she said "Rad. Glad you had a great time and came out for your first show." Thanks for this video! It was a great watch.

When I met Willam and a meet and greet she was so nice and funny, snd kind and her hugs were top tier♡♡, I will forever be a huge willam fan.

I saw Willam in my first ever drag show - I was still living in Brazil at the time. He's such a joy to watch on stage, an icon, a star. I love how intelligent and nonchalant he is. Don't need RPDR when you're that good, but I'm really glad that the show introduced me to him and to many other people!

I'll admit that Willam initially came off as a showboating "look at my resume" type queen. But she's always been one of the most unproblematic ones to appear on the show.

I have not watched every season including season 4, but watching how people talk positively about Willam really makes me admire Willam, especially after watching this video!

I’m very fond of Willam, she’s just so honest and brutally sweet

Willam is the nicest most attentive Queen I have EVER met. Willam doesn't drunk on the job, I've never seen Willam drunk in the times I've met him, he is professional & makes your fan experience worth every second.

It's incredible how confident is Willam about himself (I know she likes to be treated as her in drag, but I'm talking about the person) and his achievements, how messy he is sometimes, but at the same time, he is incredibly smart, kind and thankful. I was not into her because of her attitude in the show but when she came to Costa Rica my opinion changed. When she came to Costa Rica, she was THE SWEETEST. She made small talk with everybody and did not have a problem taking photos with people that didn't pay the meet and greet. She even called out the owners of the bar for rushing fans while they were in the meet and greet. I was so awkward (because of her portrayal on the show I thought she was gonna be like a Mean Girl or something) but she immediately noticed I was nervous as hell, and started to calm me down and tell me "that she was just another human being", without making fun, without making me feel uncomfortable. (yes, I had experiences where RuGirls made fun of me because of my nerves, and not in a nice playful way let me tell you... ) I don't know, I feel like her "diva" attitude it's just part of her Willam character, but the human behind that it's kind and sweet. I will always remember when in an interview she said, several times, that without Drag Race she wouldn't be in the place she is right now. So humble...

Very solid and thorough video. I always thought Willam was one of the funniest and smartest queens on the show, but it’s also great to now hear so many details about her as a person and how she’s been so helpful to many other queens. Sheds a lot of (good) light on her, great stuff.

One of my favorite Willam moments is during the season 4 reunion RuPaul is interviewing the top three, Phi/Jeremy was talking and Willam yells "COUGHBULLSH*T!" , much to the delight of the audience and then cuts to Willam looking not sorry about it. In hindsight considering what we know about Jeremy now it was high key rude, but it was a pure Willam moment that defined her character and I love it just for that.

Love Willam. Tucking fantastic queen. Started the whole Ru thing!
