To what temperature is it still true that the potted bulbs will be fine outside? We get below freezing temps in Dec, Jan and Feb. Most other places/channels suggest to store the bulb pots in an unheated garage etc. If I have no such unheated indoor space can I keep them in a carton of hay/mulch on a balcony? Many warn against repeated freezing-thawing of the bulbs.. Is it a problem if I get afternoon sun in that balcony?

Did a little searching, guessing this video refers to the UK and found "Most of the United Kingdom is located in USDA zone 9, although climates as chilly as zone 8 or as mild as zone 10 aren’t uncommon." So I think it may be true that in those zones you really don't have to worry. However, I am located in Zone 7 in the US so think I will have to do something to keep them warm when it gets really cold. "Usually, gardeners in zone 8 and above have to place their bulbs in a refrigerator if they want to see them bloom, while those in zones 6 and 7 will have trouble with containers freezing solid before the bulbs are ready unless they protect them to some degree."
