This is part of the genius of the Romantics. No different to rock n roll. What starts as a 'win' very quickly for what appears to be the in-group, very swiftly becomes apparent as having been a way to clear the path for future destruction (and the dismantling of the very thing that was used to clear the way. In music, it's 'genres' of pop music: from rock to punk, from hair metal to indie, until everything is just variations of hip hop. For the Empire, it was stoking up the regions and telling them they could be nations within the union. It never really happened and it certainly never will now.

You can't really be Welsh unless you have at least a basic understanding of the language. But then you can't really have a basic understanding of the language without being Welsh. Some national identities are a straightjacket, Welsh on the other hand is a key (to all sorts of magical kingdoms). There's an interesting Welsh word known as "Hiraeth" which has no direct translation into English or any other language and is unique to Welsh. It means "a longing for home" but even more so than that, its a longing that is far deeper than mere homesickness. Its about longing for something that is irretrievably lost - a sense of grief if you will... and I believe that is the exact feeling we as nationalists experience every day whilst living through this hellish multicultural modernity

The Cymru don't hate you, they dispair because you have lost your true history. Many peoples who reside in what was to become England have been here longer than even the Cymru. YES! But history was changed to accommodate a hugely unpopular Hanoverian minor dynasty who had interbread for centuries and somehow became the royal dynasty. A Germanic master race ideology was sold to the people so they would welcome a dynasty who had no claims to this island. This nonsense is now universally accepted and back in the day, it saved the royal bloodline from the guillotine.

Lurid newspaper headlines claiming Scots share DNA with Berbers and Tuareg is the same. The fact that this 'shared DNA' only goes back as far as the 1700s and is entirely related to the slave trade doesnt seem to occur to them as relevant.

This land of my fathers is dear to me Land of poets and singers, and people of stature Her brave warriors, fine patriots Shed their blood for freedom Chorus: Land! Land! I am true to my land! As long as the sea serves as a wall For this pure, dear land May the language endure for ever. 2. Old land of the mountains, paradise of the poets, Every valley, every cliff a beauty guards; Through love of my country, enchanting voices will be Her streams and rivers to me. 3. Though the enemy have trampled my country underfoot, The old language of the Welsh knows no retreat, The spirit is not hindered by the treacherous hand Nor silenced the sweet harp of my land.

In fact, some have attempted to enforce their beliefs when they have only lived in the area for a short while. There is a conflict that I have noticed myself, the attitude of newcomers seems less welcoming. Anyone who claims that the Welsh language is dying needs to do some research. My nephew was born in England but came back to Wales when his mother did. I am glad to say that the local schools take learning the Welsh language very seriously. I am impressed by the standard of Welsh that has to be understood and learned as part of their studies. I lived in Cardiff for a number of years and I can say that being fluent in Welsh was advantageous when applying for jobs.
