I know these DIY videos make for good KZread content but I hope people realize they are getting a peek into life as a self-employed person. Chris and many more like him will work sunrise to sunset operating equipment and then spend the weekend repairing equipment. It’s a much different life versus a 40 hour a week W-2 job

It's one of the reasons I like infrastructure videos. The work that gets done is fascinating but seeing the skills you need to own equipment like this is very compelling and instructional.

Chris, I want to thank you from the bottom of my old heart, as your video has changed my wife's attitude to what tools and equipment I buy. She always wants to know why I always buy heavier duty stuff than what that job needed, and I always said that more is better and the bigger the better. Now tonight she realised that my logic is right as putting those wheels on really gave her an insight in real life graft that some jobs need more than people would assume. Thank you also for an enjoyable walk down memory lane and in a funny way I miss the struggle of working in the field. Take care and stay safe.

Even for my one home job I bought the 1" flex bar instead of the 3/4" ($20.00+ more ) as it was rated at1645 ft lbs rather then having to put pipe onto the 3/4". Mechanical advantage is always better.

I'd suspect that some of those machines you have bought have been a bit mistreated, or not maintained at times. So, they are lucky now, that you own them. I like seeing you checking the oil, lubing the machines, giving them maintenance, warming them up. You realize that these machines are your tools that you need. nice video as always.

As a retired mechanic, that was fun to watch. Seeing that type of work being done and not having to do it?...priceless! Not that I don't like dirt being moved from point A to point B, but I really enjoyed the machine and mechanical aspect of this episode.

After watching Chris fix up big equipment, I can't believe every mechanic doesn't have a skid steer and mini excavator to help out at the shop. Scooting around with big dump truck tires like it's nothing especially :)

I'm absolutely jealous of your weather. T shirts early in the morning. We've have 80km winds, and -18 windchill for the last three days. Now tomorrow and the next few days are going to be even colder. I had the absolute worst time picking up my equipment today. Also, turning the wheel hub while tightening down the wheel bearing nut helps set the torque spec, then loosen it off. Another tip for rotating the wheels that we use for tractor tires. Get some blocks and stack them up behind the tire, then you can take a long bar or pipe use the blocks as the lever point and you can slowly rotate the tire. I had to do some liquid filled tires and that way works the best.

Knowing my luck I'd somehow manage to put a fork tip through the sidewall of a $4,000 tire while trying to pick the damn things up.

Job well done. Correct parts, a lot of help and heavy equipment another job completed just in time. Thanks Chris. Get ready for the rain and cold weather it's on the way.

Great job of 'back yard mechanic work'. Glad that Mike left you the special wheel nut wrench, I don`t think you & Robert could have guessed how many hammer hits would be the correct torque. Now you are a haul truck operator AND wheel seal specialist.

Hey neat trick!! If your aerosol can doesn't spray anymore but still has material inside. Take a blower chuck on your airline and press down on the can and the air chuck to recharge the can and use the rest of what ever 👌

Those long toothed "axles" Chris put in are the driveshafts, they don't carry the weight of the truck, they only transfer power.

It's nice to see that someone is showing just what a hard life this can be . I used to drive moxy's and while everyone saw the trucks trundling for few minutes rarely did anyone see the long hours and hard work running and maintaining these tough often abused vehicles

First time seeing a loader tire repair like this. That caliper was loaded with a ton of dirt and muck, lol there’s probably a lot worse out there. It’s interesting how giant machines work!

Great video. Been noticing for awhile that those tires look too skinny for the width of the rim. When inflated the sidewall expands out wider than the treadface. It shouldn't do that. Puts a lot of extra abuse on the sidewall. Besides the stress of being stretched out like that, it's more likely to cut a sidewall. Need wider tires. That said, I know getting wider tires for it just to solve this issue wouldn't really be in the books and they are very tough tires, not likely to cut.

Enjoy seeing you Work on your Equipment because GOD knows Maintenance is Expensive and it eats into the Profits which pay your many Bills. 👍

I jumped the gun on my last comment, I'm so used to doing repairs on 4x4's and cars, I used to finish off one job at a time, so id I had this sort of repair on say a Toyota Landcruiser, the oil etc would have been done before I moved on to the front, but each person has their own way of working.

A nylon tie down strap hooked to a wheel stud would help you with holding the hub up until you get the cage in on the axel.

Hey Chris you need a bracket made that sets on your forks with 2 rollers on it so when you have to take one off an back on you'll be able to roll it left to right while it's on your forks

Hey just to help you out if you if you buy the milwaukee transfer pump #2771-20. The pump will transfer any fluid that you need. I use one at work for hydraulic fluids and even cold 90w. That pump was the best investment I have made with milwaukee so I recommend it for you so you don't have to hand pump all your fluids.

Good to see you taking on such a large mechanical job but don't use your hand as a hammer you damaged them lose dexterity or function in the hand. I can hold up three fingers on my left hand but I can't do it on my right

Had some Permatex in the squeeze tube once and forgot about it in the tool box. Not a good thing at all. Made a big mess. Your one hard working man Chris, many successes to you.

When lifting put a small rope to pull the jack stand/blocks out saves being crushed?? Or when lifting put some wood or other under the tire then it will sit off of the jack stand or block. You then just have to drive off of the wood. At 31:30 your pin for the red hook is backwards.
