Will We Continue to See Action Figures In Discount Stores

Will we continue to see action figures enter discount stores such as Ross and Ollie's? Some seem to think those days of finding discount figures are over. However, I don't think this way, and I see action figures and other toys continue to find their way into Ross, Burlington, and Ollie's. Let me know what you think.

I think we should see more there. They did it with gijoe in dollar general and they were selling out almost instantly. Kids aren't buying 25-50$+ toys. Unless we can get kids back into toys, these lines die with us. Honestly, they need to forsake us collecters and gets kids into these lines. When we are gone, our kids will dump our "collectables" at thrift stores or sell for nothing. These discount stores give kids access to what these toys should cost.

I agree with you when you say that figures that don't sell need to end up somewhere. However, I have heard a ton of people saying that they will wait for one figure or another to hit clearance in one of those stores. I am sure Hasbro has heard it too, and they are aware that this reduces their sales. So I honestly don't know if the money they make selling their overstock at super low prices to deep discount stores compensates the loss of revenue and putting on people's minds the idea that their products may end up in those places for a fraction of their retail prices.

@MyNameGoesRightHere Hasbro isn't necessarily sending their overstock to discount stores. It's mainly coming from other retail stores or other local retail stores that are selling their overstock to discount stores. Hasbro has no problem selling figures people are either familiar with or have huge fanbase. However Hasbro has this habit of trying to push lesser known or uninteresting figures in a multipack or BAF wave. That's how you get J Jonah Jameson, Shriek, and the Eternals movie wave in Ollie's. I bought the entire Zabu BAF wave. Why, because every character in the BAF wave is a character I know and want. In the upcoming Strange Tales BAF I only want Hellverine and Brother Vodoo. I don't want the other figures. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that feels that way.

@@Figures_of_Action_Reviews I think you make good points, but I am not convinced that only retailers sell their overstock. Those deep discount stores sell at very, very low prices. And the only way to do that getting a benefit is by buying extremely cheap. And no one can sell cheaper than the manufacturer itself. The part I disagree with you the most is when you point out Hasbro's habit of trying to push lesser known or uninteresting figures as a negative thing. We all have our likes and dislikes when it comes to characters, and I will certainly not defend mega-corporations. However, as I see it, if Hasbro (or any other action figures manufacturer) wouldn't offer less known characters, collections would become stale, short-lived and very limited. I feel that they need to offer lesser known characters for the sake of variety, even when that presents a risk. What's more; having tons of characters to choose from is, again in my view, one of the greatest and most attractive things when collecting. All action figures collections have favorites and figures that are not that attractive in general or to one specific person. But it's the whole that makes them interesting, don't you think?

@MyNameGoesRightHere I understand what you are saying about lesser know figures. I can agree that variety is a good thing but not when they lock highly desired characters behind multipacks with characters you could care less about. The good thing is that Marvel has so many characters that are good it should be no problem to come up with a good multipack. I've bought 24 dollar figures at Walmart for 3 dollars. So yea retail stores are selling to discount stores at low prices.

@@Figures_of_Action_Reviews I totally agree with you. I really dislike multipacks because I almost always want just one figure in them, and they want me to pay for 2, 3 or 4 that I don't care about. As for the discounted figures you can find at retail stores at super low prices, you might be right. But still there is a difference between deeply discounting something you already own, and hanging it in your own shelves, than having to process and prepare huge packages to be sold at ridiculous prices. Then again, destroying them is probably not cost effective either... 😂😂😂 Do you know by any chance when and if retail stores can return figures to the manufacturer? I think knowing this could shed some light into what we are talking about.

@MyNameGoesRightHere I don't know about them returning figures because retail stores work out a deal with companies like Hasbro with sale profit percentage split. I do know that inventory is solely on the retail company. Toys are no different than towels, tires, books, art supplies etc. The retail store is responsible for selling those items and making a profit. I worked for COMPUSA before they went out of business which why I know about the company purchase deals. Hasbro is not paying 15 to 20 dollars to make one action figure it's a lot less. When I was working at COMPUSA, I could purchase the 30 dollar Motorola Bluetooth headsets for the company purchase price 8.99. So think about that in terms of bulk sales. If it cost Walmart 8 dollars per action figure and they sold them for 24.99 each then every sale would equal 3 action figures. Now I'm not saying that's their purchase agreement but that is an example of how it is done between retailers. Retail stores already factor how much they need to sell of a certain item before they break even, turn a profit, and can allow the rest of the inventory to go on clearance.

😂😂😂 you got me rolling this morning. I feel you too because I was just straightening up my office this morning and I started noticing a lot of quality control issues with my classified figures. The legs and hips are wonky. My crimson bat figures look all zesty because the hips and legs are crooked. Makes me want to only collect premium figures. And that is the reason why I don't feel bad for buying figures below full price. If I had paid full price for messed up figures I would have been 🔥 hot 😡

You make a valid point. It's like that with some figure waves. The ones people want won't go to discount stores. Look at the Armadillo BAF wave. The only ones I have ever seen in Ollie's were J. Jonah Jameson, Shriek, and Doctor Strange. The other figures were not in discount stores. But even if they don't make it into the discount stores, if Target or Walmart can't get those figures sold before new quarterly shipment arrives they will be on clearance in those stores. Junkyard and Mutt and Metalhead of GI Joe is 50% off in Target now. We talking about $44 figures sitting at $22

Another great video brother! I had thoughts but then I got typing and saw I was typing too much. In short I agree with most of what you say but I think it is cyclic. 2023 was the year of Clearance, Toy companies adjust, the rest of 2024 and Q1 and Q2 of 2025 will see less, but by the 2nd half of 2025 stuff will be back in the discount stores. maybe not like 2023, but it will be there. And cycle continues.

I totally agree, it might slow up but there will be a return of toys flowing back to the discount stores. Ollie's and Ross get a lot of their inventory from stores that have closed and gone out of business. So that stuff has to go somewhere and who better to come in and buy it out at a discount but Ross and Ollies. The pandemic caused a supply chain crisis but it also caused inventory that would have made to stores normally to be held back. So stores had a ton of inventory coming in all at once after the pandemic restrictions were lifted. There will never be a point where discount stores will not have mainstream toys on their shelves.

@PokeCatsu 🤣🤣🤣 bro I feel you on that because they have gotten away with so much in quality control issues. Especially when I have paid full price for some of these figures and I have clear visible flaws in those figures I bought. It's not a bad thing it's a cycle. It's literally in the business model. Stores get rid of old inventory to make room for new inventory and that stuff has to go somewhere. Discount stores may not pay a lot for the old inventory but it's a way for stores like Walmart and Target to get something back on the old inventory.

I would like to disagree with you just for a little bit at least for my reasoning it's not that I don't like the figure it's more the price to me it's more of why should I have to pay 30 something dollars for figure where I can get it for five or six dollars especially if I only have$20 also I can only speak for myself it's easier for me to walk to Ross than it is to Walmart I'm going to leave with this I was looking for a static shock for a good minute at the regular stores one day I went to my neighborhood Ross and I found him for $5 and I also did the same thing for the Black Adam movie cyclone I put it like this I want that new Starfire right now my money is looking kind of funny now if I can find her cheap somewhere I'm going to get her

I won't argue with you on your reason. We all have our own reason for buying action figures. What I am saying is that I am willing to pay full price for a figure that I want. However, some of the figures the Marvel Legends team has put out have been less desirable. So I pass on them unless I find them in Ross or Ollie's. Nerdzoic and The Strong Collectors saying finding figures for cheap is over is something I don't agree with at all. We will continue to find figures for cheap when stores cant keep that old inventory or go out of business and discount stores buy their inventory for cheap.
