For threads, give us a tab ONLY for people we follow and ONLY in chronological order. There's no way in hell I'm using it daily if it's tied to an unavoidable algorithm page

Without algorithm and promotion and ads, these platforms don't work. Even KZread has a subscriptions tab, yet people stick with recommendations. Their algorithm's purpose is to make recommended indistinguishable with who you follow.

I like how the fact Threads is still banned in the EU is just scoffed at like... Are people really so used nowadays that Meta will just profile you and sell your personal information that we are just... ok with that? Like I get that as YTers you are already publicly open and all that but you must know that this means something to your audience at least. This is a super worrying trend that needs to be discussed here.

I've been thinking about where Threads fits into my whole digital diet and the answer I came to was shockingly similar to yours. If it's for pictures of 24 hour only stories, I have Instagram. If it's for following niche creators or having a space away from friends and family, it's Bluesky (and formerly Reddit). Threads I find fills that niche of where I just express myself in text form with the intention of it to be seen by both friends and family - exactly what I used to use Facebook for years ago.

Two things I find with Threads, one is it has Facebook's interesting censoring aka "are you sure you wish to follow this person". The second is it is a separate mobile only app. For most people this probably isn't that big of a deal, but I don't use my phone when I'm on my laptop and don't really consume content on my phone. I could run the app in an emulator, but honestly, I'm not going to do that, other than for business reasons. I'll open a Thread account to advertise an upcoming project, but I cannot see myself using the app for my personal consumption of news and media updates.

Even though Meta has repeatedly threatened to pull Facebook from EU due to the new upcoming strict regulations, they obviously know they cannot actually do that. I understand how social media can work really well for small businesses these days, but there are way too many ads on these platforms. I met a lot of really cool people who were into photography when Instagram first came out, and as soon as Facebook bought them it when down hill. More about making lots of money then the actual community. Thread is just another platform for them to make a lot of money, not about bringing people together. Meta stops people from being creative and coming up with unique ideas for apps as they will just copy it and make it their own. I have more to say but it's already getting too long. 😂

Threads feels like it is just an extension of Instagram. I am sure there will be more features over time, but as of now it's heavy on the corporate and influencer focus. Compared to Twitter where the focus was more on people and ideas, as dumb or smart as those ideas or people may be. The only way Threads felt usable was after I spent a solid 10 minutes just blocking and muting accounts. Hopefully they launch more feature to be able to customize your feed. I still use twitter more than threads for that reason. Much easier access to information and trends.

i would still lie to see direct messaging implemented on the threads app and i don't want another app like fb messenger i want it in the same app. but not Shure if they would do this as it would conflict with messenger. and could cause further trouble with twitter

How i use social media: 1. Twitter: post complaints to bigger companies and get quick support. 2. Facebook: to buy second hand things. 3. Instagram: to flex and see my friends flexing. 4. Linked in: to post my work achievements, and see how others are progressing in their career. 5. KZread: to get informed. 6. Tiktok: to lough and pause being serious for a minute. If thread wants to replace twitter: it must do what twitter is doing, otherwise it is another instagram.

The problem with threads is that they don't have the accessibility features that Twitter does. Threads would be so much better if it was more accessible. But that's typical of Meta / Facebook. Such as adding Alt text, in Instagram & Facebook, its hidden & you have to look for it, whereas on Twitter, it's just there. If Meta improved its accessibility features, it'll beat Twitter for sure!

I respect how Marques is always the only one who knows how to keep his personal beliefs and opinions to himself and discusses subjects with logical responses and hands-on experience, where as the other guys always like or hate a product based on pre-existing feelings about some outside factor (in this case they like Threads, a product none of the others have even tried out yet, solely because they do not like Elon Musk). It makes me trust Marques's opinions much more than theirs, to the point where I unfortunately don't care about what they have to say.
