Not sure if this is gonna work or not but I ended up picking up a small pellet stove for my big automotive garage workshop!
In this video we install the pellet stove/heater with a stovepipe kit, throw some bags of pellets in it and see if it's enough to heat my 1600sqft shop in the middle of winter!

I dig the shop updates.
I think a paint booth at your shop would be excellent, the paint and bodywork was always my favorite aspect of your work
Trev, I'm pretty positive you need to heat insulate the wall behind the stove. Up here in Montreal, QC, code doesn't even allow any kind of heat near spray foam and all spray foam needs to be covered with some fire resistant material like drywall. Maybe the code is not that restrictive in Colorado, but it would be a shame to have a silly accident happen. Specially that spray foam burns like a b*tch.

Where I live in BC it would need 2 layers of 5/8 fire rated drywall , fire tape and a spray on fire retardant . And that deck above would have to be 2 by 6 lumber for the floor . But Canada is way different than the US in a lot of ways , the main thing being Democracy verses socialism .

Lol I have 2 of these with plywood walls behind them. Inspected and certified.
Adding a ceiling fan to push the heat down from the ceiling helps a lot with getting the temperature at floor level up!

Exactly what I was gonna say. It will help a lot.
Paint booth is a great idea.
Hang in there Trev! Sometimes you gotta step back to step forward.
A paint booth and 1 lift will keep you more focused on one project at a a time. which might be good for the channel.
No, fire secure material on the wall behind the stove?? scares me really....

Doesn't get hot back there it's cold, only around the pipe and he's got that thimble there.
New shop renovations are always dope to see come together
Quality of videos always clear and great quality. Don’t waste money on upgrading if it’s not seen at our end. Love your channel! Oh! Finish the truck !
Your own shop is definitely the best upgrade that you could’ve done IMO
Trev, You should extend the loft and make the upstairs like the merch office/ storage of new merch to be released and downstairs to be the fulfillment station of current merch. Maximize ur shops space and keep things organazed
Looks like is all coming together!! Can't wait to see the next build and shop updates!!
Thanks for the update I kind of figured it would be a bumpy road you trying to get all situated so you can get back to work you got this brother take your time do what you gotta do
You got this Trevor. It will all work out. Keep the rad content coming
Shop looks great guys. Can’t wait to see what y’all have planned for this year.
Hey Trevor, I run a company consulting and inspecting spray foam insulation, you need to cut the spray foam back at least 3 inches from around the pipe and replace it with a roxul type insulation, you've got a significant fire hazard they way it is setup. In your application you should also cover the insulation behind the stove with type X fire rated drywall or similar. If not, I'd be surprised if insurance will cover you in the event of a fire.
You could add some fans to circulate the heat and if you had a ceiling, it would have less cubic footage to heat.
You could extend depth of the loft. Office space upstairs, which would free the floor level for cars.
Home shop looks to be shaping up, looking forward to the progress with both of the shops.
Would be great to see you work in your own paint booth!! I also agree with the other people commenting about the danger of a fire accident. You can put some drywall at the back of your shop which would clean up your merch area and protect the foam behind the stove.
Thanks for the video guys from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
I have one of these stoves. installed it myself and it works well. i leave it on 3, but my space is probably a third the size of yours. I use a bag a day at freezing temps. I'm sure you will like it more than the cold.
Hope you all feel better soon keep up the great work hopefully you can get settled in soon and start pumping out car videos again
I have the same exact pellet stove. ran flawlessly in my house for 8 years I liked it so much I bought another one and moved the old one out to the garage. My shop is half the size of yours but I think it heats very well here in Vermont.

can you link me to this heater need one for my 3 car garage
Looking awesome!
I'm digging the shop updates. I'm also truly enjoying the GUIDED direction of the videos. There is purpose and accomplishment and it feels good man. IMO, also make sure you use that second shop for project staging! Get some nice big ass racks in there to store and organize parts for your planned builds. That way you don't clutter your primary working space and also can stage up awesome un-boxing videos for projects!
Loving the edits/cut scenes!
I love the paint and body stuff on your channel
Mount a fan 12 feet above it on a slight angle blowing towards the center of the floor. It'll keep even temps throughout the shop.
Get a low CFM fan near the stove to move the heat around, and as long as you use the side door instead of the garage doors (which you can also insulate !) you'll be fine.
I have the same pellet stove in my house! Watch the augermotor pin it likes to wear out and snap.
I live in Colorado and am heating my 60x40 shop with a pellet stove. Takes a bit for it to get the heat going; usually supplement with a torpedo for about 20 min. Added a 72" ceiling fan a few weeks ago and it has been a great addition. Pellets are getting to be an expensive source though
If that's a pellet stove. I recommend building a chute extention on tip to hold more pellets. Make it out of anything that won't melt like wood or metal. The button is right on top for the lid usually.
I used to have a big old shop that had a wood stove and it wouldn't keep the shop warm at all and a buddy of mine re-ran the the stove pipe that used to just go straight up from the wood heater and outside but he re-ran the stove pipe from one side all the way to the top center of the shop and then all the way to the other side of the shop then outside and the stove pipe that went all the way across the shop put out alot more heat and kept the shop very warm and I put a few fans blowing the heat down to help too.
Big fan over the heater to push the heat out into the room then the overhead fans to move it around. And definitely heat shield the wall.

My cold weather turbo hoodie is doing great.....
Make sure that flame is at 18 inches or above, the floor. Combustible fumes in shops and garages hover below that 18 inch mark.

THIS. Fuel Fumes collect lower to the ground being heavier than air. Insurance company hates the wood stove in my dads shop but allow it after being lifted 20 inches off the ground. We're still very careful with fuel in the building however.
Thats a good size shop. Will work out great if you set it up nice
Goodluck in the new spot guys!
Keep shop updates coming please
The trick with that little heater is to use it as a heat maintainer, but don’t expect it to warm up that big space too quick. When you first turn it on, fire up a couple of propane tank top heaters to get the place quickly up to a comfortable temperature… then that little pellet stove would keep the place comfortable.
I would put a fan up in the loft area facing downward towards the center of the shop to help blow the heat down that rises and it will def help keep it warmer.
Hey Trevor you could look at an induction heat fan to place on top of it. Also not sure how practical running 220v or the money trade off but a few electrical heaters go a long way
I wish you the best and go ahead 2022 is yours
Trev🤙 Your Doing Great 👍
its called a mezzanine floor. love the shop updates
Looking dope! I paint in cold Wisconsin weather. got a kerosene heater that’s been working great just suggestion tho good luck 👍🏼
I started to follow you when you painted the mr2 for Kyle!
Paint booth would be so good. You have been needing one for sure
That blow in insulation is good stuff
Might I suggest getting an M.P.I. (multi point illumination) light from STKR? I bet if you got two of them mounted in opposing corners you wouldn't have a shadow anywhere in the entire shop and they're super efficient and durable!
You may want to think about putting a ceiling in that will also help with heat and cooling and it will give you more storage room if you put an attic access

Ceiling or a curtain to close in your workspace a bit
The fans pushing the heat down would be the best move and you will notice a huge difference
look into reclaimed oil heaters. not only do they smell fantastic, the fuel is almost free 100% free.
Buy the booth, it's a no brainer!
Get 1-2 large ceiling fans or 4 normal size fans to help circulate the air. For the lights homedepot sells led high bay lights for around $100.
You for sure need to put something behind the stove to protect from heat edit they also make little fans that sit on top of the fan that moves from the heat of the stove to push some of the heat around
Put some fans near the furnace. Good cheap alternative for the time being.
Paint booth would be awesome Trev.
Dang 40 degrees. I wish it was 40 here, that would be amazing. Been -40 to -50 here in ND for over week
A mini-split heat pump with two air handlers would work fairly well in that shop...diesel jet heater would heat that place real quick...knock the chill off and get it to temp then use the stove and mini-split.
Trevy's custom heater coming to a shop near you. 🤣
Trevor- for what its worth- ive been down this road... the pellet stove didn't work for me and i have a 40x60 the amount of objects inside the shop had alot to do with it funny enough (tools, cars and other dense objects that absorb temperature around them- think about your concrete and how cold it is.... - Here's what I ended up doing infrared natural gas tubes overhead with a couple ceiling fans that's
@mattbrown3400
2 жыл бұрын
i did 3- 10 foot tubes and also a mini split for extra help with moisture, a/c and heat. work well to keep it above 40 when im not out there and i can have it to 65 within 30 mins. edit- i guess most of my paragraph didnt post so if you have questions let me know I would sign up for the natural gas anyways and have it run out there even if you did a regular natural gas heat pump- the gas is much cheaper than propane, pellets, electricity
Hey man you could also use a 240v forced air heater to help break the cold. Have one in my over sized 2 car I give it a 4/5 rating only 140 dollars
Put a fan behind it and push the air. If you had ran the pipe up the wall and out you could have made or purchased a heat exchanger which uses the heat going out. Technically if you move out from the wall you can still use one and blow it vertical.
The paint Booth is a great idea you can park a car in it when you're not working in it and when you are working and it's making your money keep it in the shop
Bad ass get going on updates nice
That would be a good way for an insurance jobbb 🔥🔥🔥
Mount a fan on the Wall above the burner to blow the heat out in to the shop.
Man I have that same wood pellet stove you need to put a decent fan next to the stove where the heat comes out and it will heat your whole shop a lot better I do it every night after work man my shop's a little smaller than yours and it heats it all up real nicely but without the fan it has hot spots and cold spots in the shop
Definitely need a oscillating fan to move the heat around
All that heat is up in the trusses get movement
The paint booth is a great idea...
Put a big fan in front of the heater so it sucks the heat from the heater and blow it through the shop.
Put a fan infront of the stove to push the are across the shop
Ya likely most everyone has Omnicron in Colorado...was in Denver a week ago and I caught it...just getting over it myself. Stay well brothers.
Put a oscillating fan in front of it so it blows the heat all over the shop. That's what I did. Works pretty good
Cement board with tile behind the stove or something similar...
Do that type of ground fault plug gfic work with an extension cord? It might be a dumb question. Unless it's really smart in which case I'll take credit
I suggest looking into at least monitoring the relative humidity in that space. The pellet stove is going to want to push humidity out of the shop and make things extremely dry. Not good for wood and etc.
More shop updates, big a garage next to your shop and turn the shop I to your work shop and the other as car storage. Just an idea 💡
I think it’s a no brainer to buy the PB off the guy and not tear it down. Like to see you get back into painting. Plus, less space more focused projects! And you got your home base for storage.
Get the paint booth! I need another Primer T-shirt
Love and miss this intro
I think you should put an extension to your personal barn on the side for a paint booth, that way you got room inside for stuff and then maybe you paint other youtubers cars?
That upper level is called a Mezzanine
We make the street louder 🔥😍
Try some cheap ebay/Amazon 8kw diesel heater work great and cheap . Sip fuel ... Or build a rocket stove mass heater !! Have fun and good luck .. and get a 12v 8k heater car battery and trickle charger.
Let’s go!
You got to take the elevator to the MEZZANINE Chump, change and it's on, super bon bon!
Ceiling fans would help a lot with keeping heat down.. even a paint booth at your shop would be kick ass! Then you can open the doors and crank the heat out of the paint booth 😂
U need a round stove with pipes around it than it going to be pretty warm
With that size shop it almost needs to have two of those pellet stoves in there
Yo Trev, do you think you will ever repaint your black, silver, red supra?
Wire in ceiling fans. Your heat always rises. And it will help heat that tremendously
Just put a fan in there and it should spread the heat faster :)
If you drywall and insulate the cieling the heat would stay in the building better
What about one of those waste burners where you can stick any type of oil a buddy of mine had a junkyard and he installed one of those in his garage every time he would drain out the fluids from a junk car he would burn it in his garage didn't have to spend any money to keep it going just the initial purchase of one it pays for itself after a while
Putting my makeshift metal barrel woodburning stove to shame lol
Definitely need fans up top to push that heat back down
