The car cleaned up nicely. Some radio delete plates are quite valuable to car restorers since most cars came with radios, making them rather scarce. Motorcraft 10W-30 diesel oil is good for vintage cars since it contains zinc which is needed for the non-roller lifters. It's a good idea to cover the alternator with a plastic bag when washing an engine.

Growing up, we had a red 1963 Dodge Dart convertible that had a push button transmission. Passengers thought that was so strange 🙂. No power steering. All 4 of us girls drove it through high school and my youngest sister took it to U of Texas in the 80s. Dad replaced the original bench front seat with bucket seats which I think was a boneheaded move. One of my younger sisters has it and it still runs! Those things were made to last. A little skimpy on safety features, though.

It's hard for me to imagine now, but back when I was sixteen I was able to crawl under my '64 New Yorker to change out the starter. 😁 I am amazed to learn how cheap the parts are for it even today. I had a 62 Dodge Custom 880 that had a push button transmission. My first car and I loved the pull up door handles. I also loved the huge trunk I could put my bicycle and everything I owned in it. Your Chrysler looks amazing!

Normally ... the first thing you do with a car of that vintage is to clean the points. Just sitting around they will oxidize.

I actually said that out loud to the video when he was checking out the plugs! Haha! Those of us who've been around a while remember when that was just part of the standard tune up. Plugs and points, cap and rotor. Just what you did.

I was thinking the same thing that points needed to be cleaned but I guess the brand new spark plugs he did buy the good one's NGK are good spark plugs either he knows which ones that this spark plug or somebody at Napa did?

Do you think the gear shifting mechanism was designed that way from inspiration from the "space race" that was influencing so much of pop culture at the time. When I had an art history class with an art institute in the US, it talked about how the whole space race influenced so much from home interior design to fashion during the 1960s.

Absolutely, the space race began in about 1955, so it would've influenced AND been influenced by designs of that period. Chrysler had one in 1954. It lasted to 1964 or 1965.

Chrysler went to gear shift on the column in 1965 and later, except for sporty models which had floor shifters.

Beautiful Chrysler New Yorker. ! We had a lt.tan 63 n.y. 413 also. These were painted in " thermoset" enamel from the factory, which was a baked on finish, not lacquer, which was used by GM. Love old Chryslers. ! Great find !

lol, this brings back such a great memory for me! My Dad had a car like this when I was quite young. This was pre- mandatory seat belt laws. One of the shift buttons on our old car would pop right off when you shifted into a higher gear, so it was the kid in front's job to crawl and grope around on the floor to find the button before you needed to shift down again. Good grief, it is a wonder we all survived that era.

Very cool car! The older I get, the more I really like the old cars. My brother restored a 62 Ford Galaxy and a 67 Ford Mustang and I think it was a 65 Ford truck. He still has all 3 and they drive them although not daily drivers. My favorite is the Galaxy.
