Will This App-Controlled Tank Work? | Setting Up The BiOrb Earth 125

    I have this vivarium and I’m planning on keeping a couple of dart frogs. It’s no small than the Exo Terra tanks people use for frogs. I don’t have the undersubstrate heater on at all. Fully bio active and has been set up for almost two months. Planning on getting frogs in October/early November. The price is high, but I wanted something that looked smart and needed very little input from me. Having kept marine fish for most of my life, I wanted something straight forward. This gives me what I want and I’m lucky enough to be able to get one. Others will disagree but if I like it, that’s all that matters I guess.

    The first invert that came to mind (before you even mentioned it) was a millipede :) It would do great in this environment Something else that could be cool would be an Asian Forest scorpion - they get quite big, like high humidity and don’t possess a medically significant venom :)

    For the enclosure you could get some kind of snail. Maybe not a Giant african land snail but I've had a milk snail with live plants in a bioactive 5 gallon enclosure for 2 years now. You could maybe try some kind of fancy species of roach like some domino roaches but they nymphs might escape form then vent holes.

    No idea why this tank is so small, I don’t see the point of having a fancy automated tank if you can’t even put a reptile or amphibian in there (Sure, inverts are cool but I thought this tank was marketed for reptile people) Edit: I was wrong, there are a few small species that could utilize the tank

  • @sian8322

    @sian8322

    2 жыл бұрын

    Technically it's big enough for a few Lizard, Gecko and Snake species. The problem is if they climb they WILL get burnt on the bulb and if they dig (usually a cooling response) then they're going to get hot from the under-substrate heater. You need something that won't dig or climb and is in the size requirement..... a reptile fitting those requirements is non existent. An Invert would be able to dig as it thermoregulates itself and won't be messed up by the heat underneath.

Is it ok to put it in a smaller tank for a week? Tanks that come in built with heaters, lighting, thermostats and humidifiers all controlled from a phone. It is very much like a smart house. This tank however has come too early and has too many kinks going on with the design to make it worth it, especially for its price. Worthy purchase? I would not expect her to drop the lid anymore nor did it seem she ever did after. No matter what your opinion is on the product you need to understand that this is still one of the first indicators of what we could have in the modern time. Just discounting it and chucking it in the bin is a disservice to the hobby and we wont progress if new things trying to push the limits just gets immediately shunted. You can keep going howeverbyou want tho but the prospects of self contained and managing systems that have inbuilt whatever you need is awesome.
