When you flexed the transom with the engines, the interior crack ipened up. That crack requyires woven roving overlay for structural reinforcement.

Thanks for sharing …. Agree!
Nice job on the transom, being a SoCal boater, I could not believe how shallow it is in the keys when I was there a few years ago, we don't have to pay as much attention to the depth.

Thanks for watching Martin! Yes the owner got extremely luck on this transom. Yes it’s big job.
Can you even believe where they found that A/C units in this yacht? Wes could barely fit in the hole! Sometimes its amazing where we find these systems 🤨
On the transom, you won't know until you get into it.

Yup and that’s exactly what we did ….we gave worse case scenario to the insurance adjuster as we all looked over the boat together!
Great videos as always!!! Just curious as May is coming up if any other thoughts or ideas on a clean inexpensive, furnished studio or 1Bd/1BTH place to stay for approximately 3-6 months? We just can’t find anything, and don’t think owner wants to move his vessel to a live-aboard Marina? We figure once we get there, we maybe able to find our own place, or talk owner into possibility of moving vessel? Thanks again for all the videos, I hope you know how much this has helped me and us just learning engineering types!!! Thanks again!

Yes we have all the PPE …. Yes we tell him!
It looks like the transom separated from the cap. I would have liked to see inside those inspection plates and looked at where the stringers attached to the transom.

I feel your struggles.Small business are a way of life. For me in my field electrician since 1996.As I moved up had as many as 12 people working for me; I found myself critiquing all aspects of myself. Yeah it's a little late and I'm a little tired what I'm trying to get at is the people and the babysitting in the counselor all the different roles you have to play to manage human beings they don't want to take the initiative that you. It's hard to find employees that will work for you as if the company was there own. For 26 years I always wanted the companies to make money so they would stay off of my back and passed down a little bit of the treasure towards me

JUST MY OPINION AS BEING A RETIRED MECHANIC IN THE COAST GUARD THAT TRANSOM CAN BE FIXED AS A PARTIAL REPAIR.👍

Thanks for sharing …. Yes that’s what we got approval for now awaiting what the decision is on the engines!
Did you just grind out the gelcoat between the cap and transom, and the cracking at the bottom well, and re-gel coat it?
@WillFixThat

Yes we ground it out to trace any damage. We also used filler.

Ahh okay, so wasn't really any damage, just cracking in the gelcoat from the flex. Makes sense.@@WillFixThat

@@Velislide yes looked worse than it ended up being! We thought it needed a new transom in the beginning! Got lucky with minor damage.
How much would the repair be if you had to cut out the transom?
@WillFixThat
9 ай бұрын
Just depends on how much damage there is and how far does it travel.
From experience of owning 2 31 contenders and a 27 contender myself and riding in many other contenders those are normal stress cracks. If you looked through you would have seen cracking also Whare fuel lines go up to cap on the floor and port rear of the cap.

We see lots of stress cracks on boats! Our focus for insurance was on the transom since they hit something at high speed and damaged the engines. We met the insurance guy at the boat after it got to the boatyard.
How did you got the conclusion is not a structural Damage!

Nope this is all natural… quit coloring years ago!
IF you cut into the transom the whole transom needs to be fully replaced. never ever ever a partial repair in that area. From the force and load you are asking for nothing but trouble. but the looks of things the cap to hull joint just cracked wheere they bond everything. If it were me I would take a few 1" explores into the transom to check for water. if its dry? send it its good! a transom replacement full coosa you are looking about 6k for the transom. let me know if its a loss ill pick that bad boy up and have that 27 contender looking like new lmao!
@WillFixThat

Thanks for sharing they were superficial cracks that we discovered after grinding the transom! It was all dry too.
