I was thinking the same, was at a dealer a month ago they had an 1170 mile 2015 CBR650F super clean for $3900, thing is practically brand new, and having had one in the past that did 1000 miles In a day on it with 13,000 miles on the odometer, I was kinda skeptical about this (will a 4000$ bike go 600 miles) challenge lol

We should all do stuff like this way more often. I know people are so busy these days that it is hard to find time to meet up with friends and go and do stuff like this but we need to make time. Take that week off work, it will be there when you get back. Trips like this and meeting up with old friends is what life is all about and don't let work or whatever else you have going on get in the way of that.

From Leo: The biggest goal of any trip is to have fun. You way underestimate the capabilities of motorcycles. Even with the crappy tires and lubricants we had in the 1970's I rode a tiny '71 Honda CL175 scrambler from Chicago to Denver (949 miles) and back. My CL 350 had lots of 600 mile days, all over the Midwest. I did 38 states on an '81 XS 650 Yamaha. I never had a "real" road bike until the late 1990's Usually, the machine is not what keeps you from traveling. I was always pretty good at having fun with whatever I could afford. Keep on rolling!

Then you actually have to go to court to fight to get your money back. It's sad really and flies in the face of the 4th Amendment. We have to worry about getting our cash seized by the authorities like this is some sort of third world country.

I had a R90S for over 25 years, They are a blast. (Now I ride a K1300R). About the connected petcocks. Keep both open if you want to have good RPMs. Just one is not enough for more than 4k RPM. Tab down = Normal; tab up = reserve. Power is ~60HP. Properly tuned, the front brakes are reasonable and much better than the rear. Do remember to check the engine oil regularly. It is normal that they burn oil. Take 1 liter with you, 10W40 mineral is good. Expect 0.5l per 1000 miles, less is better.

TSA taking cash issue: They can NOT take cash. When entering the country US Customs can take cash in excess of $10,000 if you do NOT declare it. You can bring in any amount as long as you declare. Their concern is dodging US income tax. Just for background, I am a US citizen that works our of the country, but travels in and out 3-4 times a year.

That bmw looked like my dads bike he bought from the police back in the day (was a 750) that police sold when they got new ones, you were only missing the old round chrome bars around the outside of the engine

My father had a BMW motorcycle back in the 1970's, leaked oil on the front path. That BMW in this vid brings back memories. He also had a BSA Gold Star. What a scary loud bike that was, it was the 500cc single, shiney polished metal tank, red badge.

I road a Thunderbird as a loaner when my Beemer was in the shop and I really didn't like it.. seemed too rigid but that was compared to a BMW RT.. this is in the vid before you start riding.. hope it goes well for both of you

jenlopez Was it the old Thunderbird Sports 900cc triple or the more modern 1600cc? I had the 900cc triple and it was the most fun bike I ever rode, purred like a Pussycat idling, roared like a lion when winding the throttle. With monoshock wishbone rear suspension, six gears, broad handlebars, it loved the Twisties we have here in Scotland. A friend who is a motorcycle trainer rode it and got off it with a huge smile on his face agreeing that it handled like a dream. I think the one you tried must have been set up wrongly, similar to the Suzuki GFS 600 I traded in for the Triumph it bounced round corners...No fun at all!!
