The bald guy who says we don't need USPS anymore is so wrong. The post office has transitioned from letters to packages. There are days I have packages for more than 75% of my route of 500 residents. Some people get multiple packages EVERY DAY, along with their mail. With Covid, it has increased even more how much people shop online. And like the PO enthusiast in the video said, we deliver to EVERYONE and everywhere, including the places UPS, fedex, amazon and the like won't. Lets also not forget the hundreds of thousands of people it directly employs and millions whose businesses rely on it. It's a joke to think the PO won't be a part of our future. There a lot of problems with USPS. Too many to list here. But there are solutions to these problems if we could just get some competence running it. /rant

@@josmacch what about the very rural parts of America, where UPS and FedEx and other delivery services will not deliver to? Those are the places that need the postal service the most. It doesn't make financial sense for the other delivery services to deliver to them, but USPS has to go there every day anyway. That's why they have that last mile contract. @@MrTaylorfenoglio 10 billion loss for an essential service that can deliver a lot of things practically anywhere in the US? That sounds like a great deal in the scope of normal US budget talks I mean military budget increases typically far exceed that. Also keep in mind that the USPS handles a lot of last mile deliveries (most expensive part) from companies like FedEx or UPS so even these companies rely on the capabilities that the USPS has developed since its inception. I think it is a bit shortsighted to view the USPS as a success/failure based off of their profit, consider the essential service they provide to practically every town in America.

They can’t find workers. The post office makes money and then the government takes the money and distributes it for other uses…and they’re also required by law to fund their pension plan for…50 years? I may be off on the years. They’re struggling because they’ve put themself in a loop where they can’t keep new employees because who what’s to work 70 hours and live at the post office. So, if the government offers a service that competes with their business and doesn't opperate for profit -- they can't just charge you whatever they want, bc you will have a cheaper option. The only thing keeping them from raising their rates like the oil and gas industry, where they can charge WHATEVER THEY WANT WHENEVER THEY WANT is the United States Postal Service. Well some of its core issues is hiring and retention. In my local area, they're REALLY hurting for drivers but they can't get the people they want, young people ages 18 - 30, because most of the people they bring in fail the drug test for mainly weed. Then the retention issue is a domino effect. They're heavily understaffed and they will make you stay for overtime when you can't. So anyone looking to do it part time is being quite literally shown the door since you will usually have to work an extra 4 hrs due to understaffing, 4 hrs that you cant spend working due to various reasons. So that rules out anyone that has passed the drug test, is looking to do it part time and is either in college or trade school. So at the very end of the day, you're left with a vary small amount of people that will actually stay but most of the people that do stay are middle aged people, and even then they might leave due to the high intensity work due to the weather the (USPS mail trucks don't have AC [they do but its usually broken and if it does work its very weak so what the use is a small fan in the summer and layers in the winter])

In small towns where the Post Office still has a location I’ve found that location is usually outside of the town center and requires a drive compared to years ago a simple walk for the majority of the townspeople. My guess is they were building a newer, larger facility and it was cheaper to buy land further out of town instead of renovating a smaller building in the heart of the town.

I wouldn't mind if they stopped Saturday delivery. If something really has to get delivered, there is Priority Express. Even documents can now be sent online and signed online. One day less (like eliminating Saturday) would save a lot of money and a lot fewer would have to work on the weekend.

Lol you can clearly see the biased media. They chose a town of 500 people to try and justify the postal service not being needed as much anymore? Do a segment in any city with at least 50k population, (which by the way would still be considered a small town) and see what they say about if it’s needed or not lol. I work out of a small city in Florida, and the postal service only seems like it’s getting bigger...

The post office has fallen so far. I worked for them during the Christmas season. And my office was severly unorganized. My first week was 76 hours. I didnt last much longer after that second week since my old job said i would get a pay raise. The problem i have with them is that i still have yet to get paid for my work. Its now been 2 months. The supervisor i worked under no longer works there and the new one kept making excuses from. "I forgot to put in your hours" to "it should be in the mail. Call hr" which they tell me its the post offices problem. My city post office is also weeks late in mail because they cant find good help (i wonder why) tho the co workers were so nice. Its the post office itself that i have a problem with. If it was a private organization it would be fixed in a week but because its a federal agency it has to go to multiple hands.

It would be wonderful to see an additional coverage deep into the postal system. Specific comments about the diverse USPS workforce on the importance of their job to America. E.g. USPS; truck drivers, custodians, clerks other than window clerks, bulk mail entry specialist, financial managers, vehicle maintenance mechanics, etc. A deep research of the postals mission of connecting the country. How would it be if we did it have the USPS? How would it affect our freedoms in our country? How would it affect elections, commerce, economy? What else does the post office delivery other than letter mail? In what value?

In one of his earlier novels, famed science fiction writer David Brin created _The_ _Postman._ It was the story of a post-apocalyptic refugee who, in a desperate moment, trips over the skeletal remains of a rural route mailman. Appropriating this persona, he leverages it to his survival. He finds himself trapped in his lie and becomes a heroic figure, knitting together the isolated communities of a devastated America. The novel is _much_ better than the movie.

I did the job as a CCA. It wasn't worth it being sent to the ghetto everyday, climbing three to six steps to put mail in a box that's next to someone's front door while walking up the stairs with a satchel weighing 30-plus pounds with a bundle of coupons, newspapers and parcels weighing you down. The old-school mail buggies were off-limits, we couldn't use them, however, there was one guy who was super senior and he was the only one allowed to use a buggy. And as you walk up the stairs you find that the concrete's is crumbled, the wood is rotted, no railings to grip on and at the same time you're trying not to slip and fall. You get back to the station in the late evening, only to come back the next day only to have an ugly supervisor cry about your timing and how you're supposed to do more work because you're a CCA. Imagine being assigned a full route for the day which is set up for 8 hours and then they take 5 hours from another route and add that on to your day and management cries and wonders 3:12 why you couldn't get it all done in 7 hours. They do good job of chasing away reputable people who would have otherwise kept the job but left due to harassment.

Today it's the 13th and has not been delivered and unknown location. I ordered my COVID free home tests and my order has not been acknowledge via Email. It's been more than two weeks without no tracking information! I love my postal workers but they are burned out!
