    Hello! I’m the bride. After filming I was unsure about the purple dress and was hesitant that it would be difficult with my disabilities. It wasn't “weeks later” it was about 2 hours after that I changed my mind and rang back. It was only after we got the dress (9 months later) that we realised my back and knees couldn't cope with it. I have a disability which deteriorates over time and my back could no longer support the weight of the dress. Please remember this is a show and they like to spin whatever angle will get the most views. The show didn't include me talking about my disability or the fact that I needed a dress that wouldn't impact my leg braces. My mum was really supportive of my dress choices, she was concerned about my health but they did not include. In the end I wore a champagne lace dress that had a LOT less layers and didn't get caught on my leg braces. Also as a side note my sister in law is lovely and so kind, we all had a great time dress shopping. Any “vibes” that anyone is getting probably come from the fact that we were there for 6 hours, to refilm things so they sounded better for tv or fit their agenda and we only got to see 3 dresses on. None of which were chosen by Amy or my mum. We got married in the brief break In covid restrictions in August 2020. We also got a dog. Thank you for all the love xx

At first she chose to get a white dress for the ceremony and then the purple dress for the reception however a few weeks later she contacted the owners to tell them that she had changed her mind and was going to please herself and just get the purple dress to wear for both the ceremony and reception.

    Wearing white was nothing more than a slightly obnoxious financial flex...white fabric was very expensive and only the rich could afford it so the middle class would splash out on a wedding to show off the ability to buy a white dress that the bride would only wear once. There is a display of royal wedding dresses somewhere and a lot of them were not white. The purple dress looked absolutely stunning on her. (purple was also an expensive color back in the day)

    Honestly if I were her mom, I’d contact the grandmas or the aunts or any of the relatives who might object, and tell them she’s wearing purple. “Just to fill you in on some exciting wedding news, Rachel’s chosen a purple wedding dress! It looks absolutely stunning on her, and she absolutely glows when she’s wearing it. She really felt that wearing something non-traditional suited her personality, and I agree. I’m so proud that she’s following her heart while making her wedding plans, and I hope you’ll appreciate how beautiful and full of love and contentment she’ll look on her wedding day as much as I will! Can’t wait to see you all there to celebrate Rachel and (Groom’s) special day!” This way there would be no shock factor (which is often what gets tongues wagging) and would also diplomatically let them know that negative comments would be completely uncalled for. If anyone has something to say after that, it would only serve to reveal what a shallow petty person they are.

    Great idea. I suspect that the relatives are not neccarily mean spirited but people tend to be curious if someone does something in a way different than usual so it would avoid having her to explain it over and over. As for myself I can sometimes in situations like that be ambivalent as to whether it's appropriate to ask or not. Not asking about someone doing something different can perhaps be seen as if being indifferent in a not overall good way, if there was a special reason to the choice of different colour?

    @@MsJubjubbird The understanding should go both ways. She's being very considerate of her mother and family here, far more than she ought to be on HER wedding day. White dresses haven't even been a 'tradition' for 200 years yet, in fact they were born out of a trend rather than a tradition of any significance. Anyone that has THAT much of a problem with her wearing a coloured dress has issues. Shame on her mother for causing such a scene and trying to guilt-trip her daughter like that.

  • @MsJubjubbird

    @MsJubjubbird

    @@serenacelestine In life we are conditioned to root for the underdog. The bride already has her perspective explained several times over. Understanding both ways doesn't mean just caving in.The mother was prepared to compromise and good on her for doing so. But she is also trying to protect her from feeling upset on her big day and the bride will feel sorry in the future if her loved ones are uninvited leading to a massive fallout and them not being there on her big day. Her grandma is probably one of them. We all know grandmas are conservative and set in their ways but we love them still. There is no point trying to change their habits. There have been a lot of weddings in the last hundred years alone and it is now a cultural tradition and symbolic to wear white.

Members of her own family are going to say cruel and judgemental things about her and the mother's response is to placate them not her daughter? Bonkers! If you're going to be offended by what a bride is wearing, you can quickly solve that issue by not attending the wedding. @@Susiegmc85 I agree for one major reason, which is that it seems to me that the bride liked the dress only because of its color. If that same dress was in Ivory, she would not have liked it I believe. Such sub-conscious reasoning makes me think that the dress was not necessarily the one. It just fit perfectly in her theme because of its color. If she found a white dress which she totally fell head over hills for, then she could add purple aspects to it, would it be a jacket with shoes and flowers in purple, or even to colour the bottom or other part of the dress in purple, it does not matter. It would have been the one.

I personnaly walked down the isle in a very , very dark orange dress that had lovely chocolate reflections on it. My bouquet had dark orange roses, orange calas and baby's breath . Reading the notes, glad she chose what made her happy. I would have also been ok w/white or ivory w/a gorgeous purple blingy accent ("belt-ish"), shoes, shrug, or added decoration!

    When they first suggested a purple dress I was shocked. Then when I saw it on her I realized it was perfect for her. Sure hope she stays with the purple. It is beautiful.

    When she said she wanted to cry cause she didnt expect that response, I felt that. Have you ever expected your parents to praise or support something you did and then they turn around and just completely rub it in the dirt

    The purple dress looked stunning on her, also her mother needs to be strong enough to tell the critics to stfu, as this is her day not theirs.

    Yeah, though people who are well grown up and seen brides wear white for decades may be curious as to why someone chose another colour? If you change the perspective a tiny bit it could as well be seen as rude to not ask in case there was a specific reason to ditch what is seen as tradition.
