Will Pokémon Legends Z-A SAVE Pokémon?

Ойындар

There was a Pokémon Presents today. Most of it consisted of filler announcements, but a BRAND NEW Pokémon Legends game was revealed. Thankfully, we DID NOT get the Pokémon Black and White remakes. But could this bring Pokémon back from being truly AWFUL into something GOOD?
Likely means we will NOT get a Nintendo Switch 2 this year.

Don’t set expectations high for a Pokémon presents or Nintendo direct unless you’re 100% sure something great will come out of it. As a Pokémon fan I didn’t really expect anything I just wanted it to be a fun presents with a nice announcement at the end. The presents was okay, the scarlet and violet events could’ve been better but I digress. With a Pokémon presents, always expect stuff for Unite, Café, GO, Sleep and Masters EX because they have separate developers who all work to build events for every presents because Pokémon has evolved into more of a brand than a franchise

Let me get this out first: people give flac for BDSP being developed by ILCA. They should've based the games on the superior Platinum version, but that's more a decision from The Pokémon Company rather than ILCA. But the best thing about those games was that they were developed using the Unity engine, which has allowed for a substantial modding community building the ultimate experience with a full National Dex and all the gimmicks made until then. With that out of the way, it was surpising that the next game would be a Legends game, and one set in Kalos. The region's lore and Pokémon had the least development, so a Legends game will rectify it. Also, the return of Mega Evolution is great, as it was the best gimmick introduced. There are plenty of Pokémon that fans have been demanding for a long time, like Flygon, so the possibility of new Mega Evolutions for Pokémon of past and later generations is very welcome. (Fire/Fairy alicorn Mega Rapidash for me, please.) And now I realize why the A after Z. If the game is set in a not-so-distant past or even in the future, Legengs Z-A might very well dig deeper into one of the most enigmatic characters in Pokémon's entire lore: AZ. The hype is real.

After the way Scarlet & Violet were released, I find it odd how people can be hyped for this. Did they magically forget everything that came prior? Because it almost seems like when they saw that 2025 release date, that was all the convincing they needed. It's fair to say Pokemon in the Switch era hasn't been the best, and that's putting it LIGHTLY. After Sword & Shield, we've had "faithful" remakes of Gen 4, then two months later an ambitious game with a scope bigger than anything Game Freak has done and while a good game, it could've used more time in the oven. And then in the same year, a new generation with a scope bigger than anything the company has attempted before. And their latest game still hasn't been fixed and likely won't be given Game Freak looks to be moving on from Scarlet & Violet. How can anybody have any confidence in this series when it's honestly in a pretty bad state given the blatant lack of quality? That 2025 release date doesn't mean anything when the game could still launch in a half baked state. The game could come out in January. I remember when Legends Arceus was first revealed, it looked very promising, but also very concerning. People were worried about the game's world looking empty, and there were talks about how poorly the game ran. And I feel this could be a repeat of what happened with Legends Arceus where we'll see a new generation come out in the very same year. I've heard from many Pokemon fans they don't need a new/remade mainline game every year. I know there are some that say I'm putting unreasonable expectations on the Pokemon series, but I think most fans would agree they want these games to be given enough time to cook and come out looking, running, and playing great. If Scarlet & Violet ran at a solid 30FPS, there was level scaling, the forced EXP share is able to be turned off, and the game wasn't riddled with bugs and glitches, it would be a pretty fine game. I don't think that's asking for the moon, those are fairly basic expectations. I'm not going to hate on this, and I don't wish to channel "cynical Arlo" energy through my Grumpus body.

I was very curious to see your take on this and surprisingly I actually agreed with most of what you said, except for of course the millionth Scarlet/Violet rant, you don't see how anybody could like or defend them, how closeminded can you get? This Pokemon Presents really proves what I've been saying right though, Pokemon does listen to it's fans and tries to make their games better for them, they heard us when we said we wanted a better story and an actual open world when we complained about those things in Sword and Shield and they're hearing us now when we say to take more time and focus on their games and that we wanted more Legends games. The only thing I really came out of this Presents disappointed with is their lack of NSO ports, like there's absolutely no reason to not put those on but I'm not really a huge fan of the first 3 gens anyways so it's not a huge loss.

Does it though? After the way Scarlet/Violet released and the fact the games will never be fixed, I don't see how anyone can be excited for this. Are they really going to take more time? For all we know, this'll come out in January. and like a month later, they'll announce the next generation of games that'll come out in November. Legends Arceus was a great game, but it needed more time in the oven, and remember when Scarlet/Violet were first announced, it was only three months prior that the Gen 4 remakes came out, and then two months later, an ambitious new take on the franchise that's bigger than anything Game Freak has attempted before, only to do it again with Scarlet/Violet. Imagine if Nintendo decided to remake a Zelda game, then release Breath of the Wild two months later, and after that, Tears of the Kingdom all in the span of one year. Don't you think that would be insane if they did that for Zelda And they can still screw things up, given Scarlet/Violet lack level scaling and there's forced EXP share. If Z-A is an open world game, what if the game has forced EXP share and there's no way to turn it off? Game Freak seems to love it given players don't have the option to turn it off in Gens 8 & 9. Pokemon's no different from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. And let me tell you, as someone who's a huge modern Sonic fan, it's sad to see this franchise I loved go downhill because Sega and the developers can't seem to get it right. I want to be excited for Sonic X Shadow Generations, but after how badly they screwed up with Sonic Colors Ultimate, I just can't get all that excited for it.

@@ranpan6082 The trailer literally showed no gameplay and you're already making all these assumptions, you have absolutely nothing to go off of and are already assuming the worst which is just sad. Legends Arceus had forced exp share in a way and yet I saw no one complain about that, if anything it'll be something more similar to that than the main series' exp share and it'll be fine. The level scaling in Scarlet/Violet is a result of them never making a fully open world game before, it's a growing pain not a planned feature, I'm sure if this game is fully open world they'll figure it out. The very fact that they are taking until 2025 at all is good news and I don't understand how you still find a way to justify hating the game before it's even out by assuming it'll still be bad despite this, if they were going to rush it out for a January release what's stopping them from just telling us that or better yet trying to put it out this year for the holiday season like they always do. No, they really are taking their time on this one and I believe we'll see it Spring 2025 at the earliest. Not seeing "how anyone can be excited for this" is a really closeminded thing to say, let people enjoy things or think whatever they want about things, I've seen several detractors of Scarlet/Violet be pretty excited about this announcement and that's because they're sensible people who don't make assumptions before they've seen anything, maybe you would benefit from doing the same and dropping your completely unnecessary hate-boner for Modern Pokemon games, especially ones that aren't even released yet.

    @ranpan6082

@r6728 Answer me this, are my concerns and fears not justified? What has Game Freak done to convince me that things are going to change for the better? Every single game made by them with the exception of the Let's Go games have all come out half-baked to some extent in the Switch era. Scarlet/Violent is Pokemon's Sonic '06, and let me tell you, that's NOT a good thing. Am I not wrong to be skeptical? It would be one thing if they fumbled the ball once, but in the span of four years, they've fumbled it at least three times. If they care so much, why aren't they trying to fix Scarlet/Violet? Because they've already got their money and are more than likely working on Gen 10, ignoring that such a game can tarnish the entire reputation of the series. I could understand that if the last game wasn't barely functioning monstrosity. And I'll counter that with, let people be skeptical and critical about something. I'm not going to be salivating over something that has yet to prove itself to me. There are games I've been iffy on at first reveal, like Super Mario Party and Paper Mario: The Origami King, for example. Should I have been clapping my hands and celebrating instead? Super Mario Party advertised itself as a return to form, and I was excited, albeit cautious. When it came out, I bought it, played it, and I hated it. It wasn't the return to form longtime fans hopped for. The most glaring issue was the game forced you to play using a single Joy-Con. It only had four small boards, they were bland and lifeless and based on a grid. The mechanics were unbalanced, the side modes were shallow, and there was no true online play until nearly three years later. Onto Paper Mario: The Origami King, as someone who adores the first two games and hasn't been a fan of the series' constantly changing direction since Super Paper Mario, I was very skeptical of it. The trailer showed some promising stuff, but it looked like it was going in a similar direction to Sticker Star and Color Splash, the battle system was barely shown, and it didn't look very creative. The interviews that came out before release didn't help things given how Kensuke Tanabe was aware of fan demand for the return to the classic style so many wanted, but ignored the criticism and didn't seem to care what fans wanted. I picked up the game on launch day, played and beat it, and I surprisingly loved the game. It's most certainly not on the level of the first two games, but still a pretty damn good game. Hell, even the battling was fun and it had some genuine high moments with Olivia and Bobby. Not to mention, the exploration was phenomenal and the music is heavenly. It was my game of 2020. However, even though I love the game, I would've loved it even more if it had the creativity of the past games. I was skeptical of Mario Party Superstars, but I was also excited. It's fine to be skeptical and critical of something. I'm very excited for Princess Peach: Showtime!, and I think people are being too hasty in writing it off as just a simple Peach game. Peach's transformations are like Kirby's Copy Abilities, and the game looks like it's the next Luigi's Mansion. It's basically a new IP and it looks like it's going to be a pretty big game. It might be my 2024 game, and I'm expecting great things from it. I'm looking forward to playing as Kung Fu Peach and getting to kick enemy butt. I'm going to state this: I am NOT a fan of this franchise. I don't care for Pokemon in the slightest. Now I know you're asking, well, why do I even care? I care because I expect better from Nintendo. This is a company that prides itself on quality, and the way Scarlet/Violet launched throws that entire point out the window. Nintendo really should be ashamed of themselves for allowing it to be released in the state it was in. And I hate Scarlet/Violet for that very reason, and I was worried about the game setting a dangerous precedent for future Nintendo games going forward. Thankfully, those fears were alleviated by all the high quality first party games they released last year.

@@ranpan6082 Of course you're allowed to be skeptical, I'm not here to control how you think, that'd be immoral. You don't have to be salivating over a game that's not out yet but you don't have to be so scathing either. By being so preemptively critical of the game before we've even seen or even heard about any gameplay you're just straight up not giving the game a chance, not even a possibility that it could be good in your mind because you're assuming that it'll be a failure like all else the company has made recently in your eyes. I just think that's incredibly close minded and if the game is actually good you're gonna look incredibly foolish whatever viewpoint you take on it. The mario franchise has merchandise but Pokémon’s merchandise is on a whole different level including pokemon centers in Japan and in other places in other countries around the whole. Anime graphics similar to Generation 6 should be the set standard in Pokémon. The Mario, Zelda, Kirby, and Metroid games always kept their own iconic designs, and they still sell and play great. SV pretty much failed where the characters look like androgynous makeup dolls from California by the state's women in their 30s. Japan is even mad at how the said characters turned out when sex dimorphism and attractiveness are gone. The XY custom clothes are the best overall. They do deserve more custom colors. Frilly Dress Green, High-Waisted Outfit Green, and Pleated Skirt Green would be possible. There should be more clothes for the boy player to match how much the girl player has. Let's Go is able to do that. I would suggest Jean Shorts in the slots the Skirts would be at. Anime graphics can even save memory size to allow the National PokéDex, Exp. Share setting, overworld Ability effects, farming, reusable TMs, one-use TRs, optional HMs, rematches, Loto-ID, and other features to be in the Pokémon games. Assets can be reused for future games like those other Nintendo games. I still wish to return to the Japanese regions because they are big enough for exploring, and small enough for the needed gameplay.

They probably just wait to release the old games seperatly for 70 bucks each. They obviously dont care now, so why shouldn't they do it?

Time for critics to put their money where their mouth is after Game Freak listened to their endless whining and is taking their time with Legends Z-A.

I don't see how genuine and accurate criticism of very poor-quality games is "whining", nor do I see why anyone should pony up money sight unseen. We don't even know that them waiting until the beginning of next year is "taking their time". Considering they had practically nothing to show for the game, it's entirely possible it has only been in development for a short time so far. Don't apologise for Game Freak when they have yet to prove themselves.

I’m certainly in the minority but I don’t think S/V are as terrible as people make them out to be. The games run terrible at times, definitely and the DLC should have been a third version that fixes these errors but I think it’s got some of the best Pokémon/music/story in the series. I tend to enjoy those aspects in games more than performance. I’m very excited for Legends Z-A mostly because I’m excited how they refine the Legends style as well as Kalos lore (PLA is prob my favorite game in the series if not Pokémon BW2)

  • @GareWorks

Half the music is complete garbage, and the story is all dumped at the end of the game. The performance is trash, the draw distance is non-existent, and it's riddled with bugs. Cope harder.

If they made a third version of S/V people would be even more pissed. They can easily fix all glitches and bugs with a patch update. Paying another $60 for the same game without the bugs is a slap in the face.

I believe legends za may tie into a character from x and y called AZ which was a king in the lore of x and y and had a enternal flower floette. Also gen 10 won’t be a till 2026 atleast cause of the three year cycle so who knows really hopefully we will get on a “switch 2”

Alot of people will be done. Goodbye Pokemon and hello Palworls. Gamefreak has ruined the same series they made me love in the first place and I am fucking sick of getting these half assed ugly games. This is your last chance Gamefreak.

It's a surprising twist, but apparently it's only set in the one city, so... I doubt it'll be any good. I guess we finally got Pokemon Z though. Kind of... Game Freak need to set up a third development team so they can have longer development cycles. It's not like they can't afford it. Also, Masuda is a hack.

It won’t save the franchise at all because game freak are nothing but lazy incompetent developers, the dex cut, ugly galar fossils, forced exp share, incomplete broken games, etc all have destroyed this franchise. The only way to save pokemon is to hire fans that care, take more time to finish the games and fix all of these problems mentioned.
