Varun has very good knowledge and answers very well . But I want to present some facts from our history that India is one of the ancient civilisation dating back to 2500-5000 B.C. which was urban . At that time not the whole world was even civilised . India was very rich prior to coming of the East India Company for trade here . At that time, India's share in the total world's GDP is estimated almost 23 percent which is considerable. But after the British colonial Raj it became mere 4 percent. An estimate suggests that 45 Trillion Dollars amount was siphonned off from India's economy during the British Raj to the Great Britain. India was one of the world's largest exporter of textiles But in the last phase of The British Raj India became the net importer of England made textiles , England exported 43 percent of its total textile production to India taking advantanges of being its colony. There are many factors during the colonial rule - Deindusrialisation of India, Tarrif , Exploitation of natural resources , Drain of wealth ,etc made India poor prior to Independence.

As per your surname its look like you are bengali, then tell me why 95% of bengali people are non vegetarian, so as per your logic they are not original hindu. I think there is no such thing like one should be eat only veg to follow sanatan dharma, 71% of indian hindu people are non vegetarian. And kashmiri brahmin who are considered top in hindu cast system are also eat non veg.

Even in India more than 71% people are non vegetarian, only few north India state has vegetarian majority people. Also as per science we can not get full nutrition from plant only. See the average life expectancy of America, China are so high as compared to India.

Only baniyas and some brahmans are vegetarians. Kshatriyas and kayasts are not. Many lower castes are not. So, claiming that sanatan dharmis are veggies is not straight talk. You have a bong surname. You should know. All bongs love fish and meat. There are very few bong vaishnavs.

Being Veg is a virtue. It's easy to be Non-Veg these days. Once you develop taste for meat it's tough to shed it. It's important to respect people who maintain vegetarianism as a family tradition and culture.

In Northeastern India especially in Manipur we don't necessarily ask our parents who our partner will be or her religion. But we need to live with our parents since they are getting older we consider/think that our parents need help to do small stuff. Basically taking care of parents is considered as our sole responsibility so live with them.

Why not? Indian parents are very understanding they will sure accept you. Most Indians are non-vagetarian. 80% Indians are non-vagetarian. Almost 60% Hindus are meat eater, consumed meat/fish 3 to 4days in a week. Only Rajastanis/Gujratis eat vegetarian food most other Indian States are non-vagetarian
