Awesome stuff as always guys! I'm a tinkerer/problem solver myself - I've made a few machines (out of wood) for my new trade as a luthier (guitar and stringed instrument making) I've also built my own temp and humidity controlled atmosphere workshop out of wood I bought from a 'box store' plus scraps from a giant CNC machine. Wish I had harbour freight over here (original jersey, UK). We simply can't buy some of the gear I'd love to have access to without being licensed etc. your content is truly inspiring and it's nice to see the real you guys and the chemistry. It's all great but doing boy things in a man/batcave is easy enough with smiles on your face.

I've had my suspicion when they've started driving around with that tow bar, that someone should have been in the rear to at least hold the steering wheel straight when needed. That "flat tow" rig is supposed to have a harness that connects to the electricals for signals and a connection to the air brakes, steering not required. Vehicles are flat towed all the time without a driver but it has to be hooked up/done correctly. I'm sure those trucks will have the hook-ups unless for some reasom they were stripped out but why would anyone do that!

Those things are horrible for maintenance. Every hundred miles of a road march we'd lose 2-3 vehicles. You guys need to wait for the glow plug light to go off right above the switch. It's pretty easy to mushroom the glow plugs in that engine.

I've done it both ways with various combinations. If the towed car is light weight compared to the tow car and has good caster on the front wheels it works fine with no driver behind the wheel. But if the towed car has poor caster and is heavy then it needs a pilot behind the wheel just to help the steering. It doesn't need much effort on the wheel, just a bit on turns to help it find the right track.

Pretty sure that with those A-Frames, you're still required to have a driver in the towed vehicle for that very reason (excessive strain being put on the mount going round corners). I've been involved in recovering buses with tow wagons before, and the only way you can recover something without a driver on the towed vehicle is if you suspended tow it to in effect turn it into a trailer.

I came from FabRats just to find out the story of this Hummer ! I liked the story except when I seen things starting to go wrong ! The major problem was no one in the back vehicle while it was towed ! Sure you turn the lights on but brake lights only works when someone pushes the brake pedal ! I could tell by looking at that tow bar that it wouldn't hold up long ! Sure you towed it around a little before starting out and a comment was made that it couldn't take sharp turns ! But you guys did it anyways ! I'm just glad that no one got hurt or killed in this stupid stunt ! Please really think things through , look at the whole picture , at all the possibilities that could go wrong and be prepared for anything ! I seen where one of you laughed at comment about the danger that you put others in without their knowledge ! Sure you want to do stuff , I understand that but please do it with the safety of you and everyone around you ! I didn't serve this country for people that doesn't seem to care what happens to others as long as you get to stupid shit !

I've made the drive from Orange County to Denver 17 times since moving to Denver in 2006. In a uhaul with a car hauler two times. In a uhaul itself. 2002 BMW 328i, 2009 Audi S5, 2006 F150, 2016 F250, and a 2017 Honda CRV. If you are 2.5 hours from Vegas, you definitely have some uphills. They are deceiving in that area, and after Vegas to St. George as well. They seem gradual, but they just wear on you, and the vehicle (of course, not always, the coupes were fun regardless of the grade). My 2006 F150 blew its front main seal on the transmission pulling a Uhaul trailer on the grade out from Baker, CA. That heat, the black asphalt, and long grades really take their toll. Well executed gentlemen. Looks like a very grand adventure.

I know a story about a guy, who pulled up in his 80 ton road train, at a steep hill near Mt Isa in the middle of nowhere to help a broken down 115 ton triple road train. They hooked up a "stiff bar" and the 80 ton road train took off and towed the 115 ton road train, 100 km to Mt Isa. The secret was, the 80 ton road train had Eaton "dual range" diffs, that had 6.5 to 1 reduction instead of the normal 4.11 to 1. But remember when towing, to pull the tail shafts out, or your transmission will be toast over long distances.
