Will organic revolution boost farming in India? - BBC News
In 2016, Sikkim, a small state in India’s northeast, was declared the country's first fully organic state. Since then, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has been trying to promote chemical-free farming across the country.
It’s been nearly half a century since the "Green Revolution" introduced modern farming techniques that included the use of pesticides, to make India a self-sufficient food producer.
So will Sikkim’s organic revolution be able to reinvent agriculture once again across India?

It is not good for mass scale. If it was then everybody would be doing it. More research is needed.
Sikkim....please make it viral...so that alla the states will fallow the same.

Better trading opportunities out of EU means we can look forward to some organic food from India at a fair trade price.

Uhm the EU imports food from India.... Not sure what you're on about here. And many larger farms, especially the tea plantations of Sikkim have got their EU ecocert without any issue.

@Very Good Monsanto was most commonly known for producing genetically modified (GMO) seeds and the herbicide glyphosate known as “Roundup.” They produce cotton, soy, corn, alfalfa, sorghum, and canola, which are all sprayed with Roundup to manage the surrounding weeds that may otherwise reduce how much of each crop they could
Good video thanks for your information sir...
Whatt ?? Positive news on India ?? I thought BBC is changed but my faith restored in West when I saw some Comments 😊 Proud of you Westners 😅 , don't forget to cover Rajasthan's solar park by saying it is waste of Money 😙 🤘 🤘
Great efforts..
Sikkim and other north eastern states have the potential to go 100% organic. It will be difficult to replicate through out the country though.
Thank you
I have visited the state twice and I loved it. I am also planning to get e piece of land for myself in lease for myself. Hope to start organic farming/aquaponics very soon. Loved its serenity and clean environments.

Yes - it just takes williingness to stand up to the multi-nationalist Bayer/Monsanto and its $$$ to fight to spray toxic chemicals on their Roundup-ready toxic seeds.

Wow!!! Awesome. And Monsanto/Bayer hasn't sued them yet? Please stay up on this story and keep us posted on the progress of going organic in this area of India.

good evening all organic farmers
ORGANIC DEVELOPMENT OF FARM means ODF,what??????
All India should be organic now.
Wonderful! How about some numbers? How much chemicals were used before at what cost? How much revenue the farmers were earning then? How much farmers are earning now? Most importantly, how have their lives gotten better? E.g., their children getting better education? Just curious.

Great effort and good initiative. Ban all pesticides
Great job, Sikkim! Meanwhile, there are states like Tamil Nadu that are exporting vegetables soaked in pesticides to Kerala.
Wow, this report did literally no work in investigating WHY this has worked. Removing pesticide, and then maintaining crop yield, sounds improbable.

Nowhere in the video was it mentioned that the number of crops increased. The farmer stated that they had less crops at first, but it went back to its usual numbers after a few years (this part wasn't explained).

@@alex7834 bro what you talking about..its different..first do u prefer chemicals in your food or real natural food? And only organic farming is sustainable long term..why do you think people are switching from chemical pesticides and so called fertilizers, because it has made land infertile and poisoned our foods!

Organic farming currently is reserved only for rich people or naturally rich areas. The ground reality is very different. Only because of "evil" Agro companies people have food on their plate.
