Will my PACIFIC DREAM ever come true - SwT 39 (NAVIGATION THROUGH A CHALLENGING TIME)

In this episode, I'm talking about my Pacific thoughts and also take you with me in parts of the real world of sailing and navigating through a covid world. I'm still trying to be positive and optimistic about my sailing adventure, even though reality sometimes is challenging. I have not given up on my pacific dream but it's still difficult to say when this chapter of my next adventure will start. At the moment it just seems stupid to even think about crossing the Panama canal and go out the big blue. Lots of people say they have crossed the Pacific yet they only sailed to French Polynesia. To be fair that's not even half of the Pacific, closer to one-third. Just to put things in perspective and then imagine all the closed islands and borders. Going now would be like happy go lucky.... and miss out on a lot!
Thank you so much for watching and for your support!

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm trying to sail around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to the troubles around and was supposed to be in Asia by now.
Even though this is season 3 on youtube I have already sailed 4 seasons full time but did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and been sailing ever since.
PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS!
I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.

Another good video, Thomas. Don't rush into the Pacific for our sake. You are smart to hang out closer to easy supplies until you get all of your spare parts situation dialed in. Stay safe and fair winds, sir.

Thank you Joel 🙏🏻 I really happy I did not manage to go through the Canal last year looking back now. Not only for all the challengeses I have had but also not to be an extra burden to small islands and nations in difficult times. All the best and thank you for watching and being here🙏🏻

@@SailingwithThomas Hello Thomas , if you looking at your options , l could have a suggestion for you....It is clear to me that this may sound strange, but I would have a question or request for help or advice, as you are a very experienced yachtsman ... In one of your videos you have guests on the yacht ... do you still welcome guests on the yacht ?? ? I would be interested in crossing the Atlantic ( middle June ) to the US with you on a yacht, so I can learn a lot from you ( as I'm beginner, but we're all at that stage, sometimes ) and I also have a potentially selected yacht for me to buy ... If it would appeal to you we can talk about the conditions in the email or WhatsApp. ..Thank you for now ...and take care yourself

Hi Henri and Thank you for your message! Its not strange at all. I do get similar questions quite often so you’re not alone. At the moment I don’t take onboard guests, and I don’t even wanna leave my boat anywhere no matter how tempting offers coming my way. It’s such a crazy time we live in and unpredictable in borders getting closed, flights cancelled and so on. The risk of complications is just to great at the moment. Imagine the running costs and worries if I was stuck somewhere not able going back to my boat for months...

Fantastisk kanal. Hey Thomas, your links in the description for Facebook and Instagram point to some Chinese accounts, I would guess due to cutting of the strings. I would advise you to use some url shorteners like tiny url as otherwise you are redirecting users to random accounts and initially I thought you were hacked :) Keep the good content!

Thanks for updating on your decisions Thomas. Very wise choices I think. I had the chance to start full time cruising last summer when things eased off a little. It was tempting but I decided to wait and see what would happen. So glad I stayed put, stayed safe and saved my money. Time will come before long and I will Be Free as well.

Ever thought about a wind generator? Mine delivers up to 300 watts in 15-20 knots of wind.

  • @SailingwithThomas

Yeah have looked at this but not come to any conclusion yet. There seems to be strong arguments on both sides. Noise and maintance combined with lifespan... However its pumping in power at night and rainy days which is a big pro👌🏻👍🏻 I would need to have two for compensatibg solar on grey days. And still need generator for water production as my watermaker runs on 249V and needs 1Kwh

Yes. I have all three of them. My windmill does not make any noise by the way....it’s like the Sunset Solar model about 900€. Maintenance free.
