@@eatass5627 i think you misunderstood. I don't think they're cripplingly deformed in any way at this point. And while, sure, a lot of people struggle with deformity that causes health problems. I don't think they need any more self-pity or be 'perceived by the rest of society' as "cursed". Just as it's WRONG to say that people born with autism are a menace to society. Why have that mindset rather than living positively? Why force that connotation into a mindset that deformed people are cursed? Being happy and okay with what you've to deal with in life is not erasing the fact that there are problems that exist, but rather, knowing how to better cope with life. So, when the commenter says, "it's okay" it doesn't negate facts or make up an illusion that problems don't exist. But it's not their fault and it's perfectly fine because they've got this. And I am amazed by anyone and everyone having to deal with anything that an average person doesn't have to - people with depression, some born with certain faculties, etc. They are amazing and we don't need to make them feel bad about themselves by shoving in their faces that they are different and unique.

So whenever you get a change somewhere in there that is quite an outliner, you can assume very heighened set of health issues. And it literally doesn't matter if it's external or internal mental or physical. Because it's very tightly connected. Just standing out as a person already gives you worse health outcomes (probability wise) as a corelated result. As in one issue leading to another and them eventually reflecting in physical heath issues. When you have ADHD (like me) it's a type of brain that is specialised on e.g. risk detction, basically. Attention follows the strongest impulse. As a consequence of bad fit with our societal structures, depression rates are very high. As a result of that, physical issues appear. From gut problems, to insomnia, leading to .... a lot eventually. Meanwhile dwarfism means a different body construction. One that is significantly apart from what evolution has assigned "a good balance". So physical strains are likely. In addition to that, constantly being in ergonomically terribly fit surroundings in and off itself adds to the physical strains. Add evtl. psychological distress and it's really a pile of heighened risk factors. Hope I could explain it in a more or less coherent way :'D

@@leila_de_hautjardinit can often depend on the type of dwarfism they have, and what it is about the individual condition that causes their short stature. There are many many different medical conditions that can lead to being being under the height threshold (usually under 4foot10)to be classed as having dwarfism. Dwarfism itself isn't a actually a name of a specific condition, it's an umbrella term for all conditions that cause short stature. There are hundreds of different conditions that are under that label of dwarfism! It's like, the term 'learning disability' isn't a specific condition, it's an umbrella term for different conditions that affect learning/how the brain works, like dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia etc. I hope that makes sense, about how dwarfism isn't one specific condition. I believe that Peet's parents actually are a good example of this. Both his parents have a condition under the label of dwarfism, but his mum and his dad have different 'types' of dwarfism. Some types of dwarfism have more complications than others. Some of them only affect the length of arms and legs, and the person with that type of dwarfism doesn't really have any complications or symptoms other than short stature(height). Some forms of dwarfism can affect many many different parts of the body, it's not just short stature. One example of this is primordial dwarfism (which actually is an umbrella term itself, there are many sub types of primordial dwarfism conditions, with varying levels of severity and complications possible), or progeria. Those examples actually cause so many issues in the body, as well as them being very very small (usually shorter than 3 foot) that it's actually a terminal condition, and the kids with these types of dwarfism (primordial dwarfism, progeria etc) often pass away before the age of 10 and rarely live past 20. So, with so many conditions/types of dwarfism, there is a big range in what kind of effects each type has on the body. Some types affect just their height and they have no issues other than that. Some types affect height, and also causes limb deformities, early onset arthritis, other issues of how the bones/body structure is formed and held together. Some types can affect height/limb lengths, and also causes problems with internal organs, the brain, many many issues. Even two people with the same type of dwarfism, may have different severities of how it affects them, so even within the same condition, some people may have no extra issues from it but someone else has extra complications. It's a very complicated topic! So, in summary- dwarfism isn't one specific condition. It's actually an umbrella term for hundreds of different conditions that can have many different body effects and complications, but the one thing all those conditions have in common is that it causes the person to be shorter than 4 foot 10. Some types of dwarfism may only affect their height, without any other medical issues, but that is pretty uncommon (

Not to mention, the fact that the world caters to average height people. Going to the store- the carts are too tall the shelves are too high the toilets and sink is too high. Can't use a lawn mower or a normal vacuum. Driving! Everything has to be custom built but I'm sure that can get expensive.

@@allycookie2009 I'm pressure sure there's been a video showing various members of the family and friends who also have some form of dwarfism, doing basically all those things you listed - mowing a lawn, shopping, vacuuming etc. And they showed how their cars are adapted - with pedal extentions that were very cheap (relative to overall car costs!). I agree with your general statement, that the world is set up for average height folks. But that doesn't mean that its impossible to adapt to that world even if you're not the 'intended user', and end up living a 'normal' independent life with dwarfism - having a job, raising a family, looking after your own home. It makes some things need more planning sometimes, or adaptations like a step stool in the kitchen but still totally possible. I wish I could remember the name of that video Peet did that demonstrated that point far better than I could

In short, we have the red gene on my daughters side that hasn't shown for 4 generations, but her partner was red. What are the chances of my grandaughter having a red-haired child? If they have kids with someone who also doesn’t have the gene, their kids won’t have dwarfism. But genetics can be complex and there are many causes of dwarfism, so it’s always a good idea to talk to a genetic counselor for personalized info. Keep up the good work!

I can relate. My granddad died of Parkinson’s and now my dad has it. I’m terrified that I may have passed it on to my son. Women can get Parkinson’s, but are at much lower risk than men. So it’s possible that I will get it, more likely I won’t. My dad also has an autoimmune disease, as do I, so my son might inherit that too. It’s something we really can’t control. If it’s something extreme (like Huntington’s or ALD) and you happen to know about it before you have kids maybe you can make that choice ahead of time, but most of us don’t have that foreknowledge.

I understand your concerns. I have a rare eye disease which causes me to be legally blind. Ever since I was little, the thought of having kids has always scared me. I have always wanted kids, but I don't want them to have this disease. For a long time I was afraid that I would never be able to have kids without this disease, so I never wanted to be hopeful. When I was 16, I had to take a genetic test due to other reasons. When I met my doctor to go over the results, he asked me, if I ever wanted kids. I gave him a fake smile and quietly said "yes". I remember him saying "Well, I saw from your medical history that you have rare eye disease, so I especially wanted to check on that as well. Many people with rare disease are scared of having children, because they don't want to pass them over to their children (I nodded). Well I have good news for you, not all of your genes are "damaged", only half of them are. That means, if you ever decide of having children one day, you can have children that won't inherit your eye disease. For you concieving a child naturally would be a high risk because there is always this 50/50% chance. So for you to have children without your eye disease, the child would have to be concieved through IVF". I was so happy, I almost cried my eyes out

The problem is that dwarfism come with health problems, and obviously his family knows and worries about it too. His father had so many pins in his spine. His brother needed oxygen for sleep since young. And both of his siblings needed countless orthopedic surgeries. Everyone wishes their children to be healthy, and I suppose his mother want her grandkids healthy too. It's my interpretation, but if he was afraid of hurting his family by trying to learn about his genetics, he wouldn't even tell his mother about the test.

Whatever you are is dominant in you. So if you're an LP, it would be dominant so in his parents, dwarfism is dominant but not in him. In his brother and sister, dwarfism is dominant. His mom has blue eyes so it is dominant in her and his dad has brown eyes making brown dominant in him with a recessive blue. In him, blue is dominant coming from a maternal dominant and a paternal recessive.
