That's a bullshit argument. Mumbai and Mumbaikars are living in a daydream of living in a India's financial capital. Mumbai is a city with no intent of future growth but living only on the greed of today's capitalism. Absolutely unreal property rents and rates & pathetic commute options will throw people out of this city. And when the moving out population crosses the number of people coming in, the downfall of Mumbai begins. And with above mentioned reasons I don't see this happening in a far future.

I have a slightly tangential opinion on this matter - Mumbai no doubt is losing its monopoly in certain sectors and I feel that's good for the city. Let me explain, monopoly somewhat stagnates growth and competition so if we get more cities competing for our businesses we will be forced to better our game with better infrastructure, better policies, better financial schemes and so on. Furthermore, on a larger scale we will see growth of country as whole rather than growth of single city which will help distribute the strain on resources and help optimal utilization of opportunities and resources.

In an attempt to gain control of Maharashtra, they resorted to purchasing MLAs. Furthermore, they orchestrated the relocation of Mumbai's port resources to Gujarat, favoring one state over the other. Additionally, they allocated multi-billion projects to Gujarat, neglecting the development of Maharashtra. Aware of the educated electorate in Mumbai and Maharashtra, they understood that their chances of being elected were slim. Consequently, they have exploited Mumbai to the fullest during their unlawful governance, taking advantage of their time in power to plunder the city's resources. Marathi community is not a business community. They are the consumers and employee mentality community. North Indian crowd gradually moving to Noida and Gurugram cities. Their state especially UP is developing. And moreover anything, high land cost, slum and chawls are the curse for mumbai.. So the future of mumbai seems to be dark. Lekin ab Mumbai jaise city mai bahut crowd ho gaya hai, pollution bad gaya hai. Quality of life gir gaya hai. Ab toh connectivity resources bad Gaye hai toh tier 2 se bhi hum job kar sakte hai. Aur ek bade city ka disadvantage hai ki corona jaisi bimari, war aur earthquake, cyclone jaise natural disaster aaye toh pure city ka nuksan hota hai aur GDP PE bhi effect ho jata hai. Iske badle agar 4-5 tier2 city hogi toh ye nuksan Kam ho jayega aur GDP PE jyada effect nahi hoga. Future mai natural disasters aur bimari badne Vali hai. Isliye tier 2 ka development jaruri hai.

Mumbai is over expensive and over hyped city. Due to lack of central government responsible infrastructure like airports connection to other cities, Mumbai has taken advantage. Example: Maharashtra’s most exported item is diamond, while Diamond is not even a business of Mumbai, it’s 100% of Gujarati business. It is business of Surat. But, Surati has to go to Mumbai, open an office there to trade & export Diamonds as it has to exported via air. Once Surat gets international connection to Antwerp, Belgium or Honkong, there is no role of Mumbai left in Diamond trading. Even with some flight connectivity started between Mumbai, Delhi & other big cities to Surat, many diamond trader moved back to Surat and close their offices in Mumbai. Mumbai diamond export will literally go down if Surat get direct connections to Antwerp or Hongkong.

It's like saying that China has only Shangai, man China has multiple financial city centers like Beijing, Shenzhen, etc. So, as India develops, it should/must create other financial centers in the country. As far as Mumbai goes, it will lose nothing because of the pace at which India is growing, Mumbai will keep on growing, it will not reach saturation any time in the future. As Mills example goes here, usually the clothing industry moves to low-income regions so, there is no way mills can be operated in Mumbai. Mills anyway would have ceased as income level rises in Mumbai.

As much Mumbai seems developed from the top there's always a different story happening on the ground. Well I do understand the reasons and it can't be compared to newer cities, but as a Business owner places like Gurgaon is a lot more attractive as it's not just more developed but you can also find aspirational people all around specially in tech.

I am a mumbaikar. Mumbai is Dying. Mumbai can turnaround but it needs to be Mumbai not the capital of Maharashtra. Move the capital of Maharashtra to Pune or Nagpur. Mumbai should be run by a CEO and not a Mayor. Merge Navi Mumbai, Thane, Virar Vasai into one Mega City
