Hey guys, I’ve been watching your show because I follow Sam. it would be great if you could do more of a deep dive on his career. Specifically, the coaching changes and coaching quality, and the talent or lack there of he has had around him. You could even go back to USC. Coming out of high school he was amazing and each year he declined somewhat. The wins that USC had had nothing to do with the coaching. So many head scratching oh my God, how did he do that moments. I think if you could add a little perspective in a pragmatic way, you might realize that he’s got a legitimate chance to finally have a good season with all the amazing resources around him at the Vikings. Just my humble request.

"Teddy was awesome, and that was a lot of fun" ... said nobody ever with functioning pattern recognition xD. Special Ted was never going to lead anyone to a Super Bowl. He was Kirk Cousins, minus the arm talent, and minus the gaudy statistics. He was just cheaper which allowed you to build a roster that could carry him to 11 wins, but not on a playoff run. We don't need Blair Walsh to kick a 27 yard FG if Special Ted finds the EZ just once in that game. The defense did its job. Special Ted, the ultimate checkdown machine.

How (and more importantly, why) do people keep insisting that Teddy Bridgewater was great (or "awesome" as Declan put it) and then a knee injury ruined what was obviously going to be a great career? There is no evidence, pre or post injury, that he was going to be anything other than a borderline starter with average results. We were 11-5 in 2015 with Teddy at QB! Ok, we had Adrian Peterson running the ball, our running game was 4th in attempts, yards and TDs. How about the passing game though (Teddy's job)? We were 32nd in attempts, 31st in yards, 31st in TDs. Add a middling defense to the mix and you see how we won a down division and then lost our Wild Card game. But people will argue that was proof he was going to get better. Why would you think that? It was a leg injury to a non-running QB. Countless are the QBs who have suffered leg injuries and came back to be the same QB they were before the injury. After the injury, he went 16-21 on five other teams in six seasons. Let it go, folks. Teddy was never anything but average at best. If you want to come back to earth a little, compare Christian Ponder's first two seasons (or entire tenure) with Teddy's and you'll see they weren't really very different.

  • @jeffchaska9955

Haha 😂. That wasn’t just a leg injury. He could have died. I think you forget how serious that was. His upper leg basically separated from his lower leg. People are talking about how good he was because of how good he was looking that preseason. He LOOKED phenomenal that preseason so far. Was driving the ball down the field. Hitting everything. He answered all the questions people had about him, then his leg decided otherwise.

I think part of it is that Teddy really comes across as a great person, competitor, and teammate. A lot of us were cheering for him because he is the kind of player you want to see succeed. Even if his stats weren't great during the 11-5 season, he was competent. He wasn't making stupid mistakes that lost games. We'll never know how it would have turned out if he had stayed healthy. Kudos for Teddy for carving out a pretty respectable professional career in spite of the leg injury.

I think I can answer my own question by saying Teddy represents what people WANTED to happen (once again, without any evidence to support the possibility) but there is no way to disprove the hypothesis. Fans of the Vikings and Teddy have the ultimate excuse for why he didn't become a star, and all realists like myself have is excuses in the other direction. BTW, when a person disagrees with another person's opinions in sports, why is it a knee jerk reaction to insist that the other obviously "never watched the guy play"? Yes, I watched Ponder and Teddy play and Teddy was better. But only marginally. The point wasn't saying they were the same guy, it was saying that they aren't all that different, results-wise. Yes, as everyone insists on saying, Teddy was well liked, a fine leader, a great person, etc. I am not arguing what a fine person he was, just that he was not a sure shot future great QB. But everyone who liked him as a person feels they have to defend him and all they have is what a great person he is since they can't defend his game. He was a dink and dunk, game manager who handed the ball off to an all pro RB. I don't know what else to say. Let the deluded continue to be deluded I suppose.

  • @Robert-og2kr

There will be no QB controversy. There are 4 possible outcomes, based on Darnold's play and McCarthy's development. If both are good, they will keep McCarthy. If both are bad, they will keep McCarthy. If McCarthy is good and Darnold bad, they keep McCarthy. If Darnold is good and McCarthy is struggling, they keep Darnold. It will be embarrassing, but not a "controversy." The only way it becomes complicated is if Darnold makes a deep playoff run, which I suspect is highly unlikely--which means it will happen because... Vikings.

I love the Caleb disrespect. Previous rookie qbs have had success their first year. Dak, Herbert, Stroud... Common denominator: offenses that were loaded. For example Herbert had Keenen Allen( huh, so does Caleb)... And if you dont the Bears arent significantly more talented than the Vikings you are just telling people what they want to hear: The Bears fourth CB(Terell Smith(picked one spot after Jaren Hall)) would start on Vikings. Bears have 3 #1 recievers( Odunze is the shit) Bears have 2 healthy TEs Bears line behind Bagent who got ball quickly was fine and has improved significantly. They now have a real center, one who started on a Super Bowl champion(and quality backup in Bates) 3 running backs who can play. Bears Linebackers are fantastic(as always) Montez Sweat is force multipier at DE. Bears have more talent, more depth and it is young depth under contract. You think Flores is the greatest defensive mind that ever existed. Eberflus has an excellent track record as a defensive mind as well. And Bears get to play Patriots, Panthers and Commodores, while Vikings get Jets, Atlanta and Giants. Bears benefiting from 4th place finish(although they finished strong unlike ViQueens.

JJ, Addison, Hockenson Aaron jones, a better offensive line than the bears with two really good tackles. Also the Vikings lost Danielle hunter but actually probably got better on edge overall. Their weakness is interior d line and cb. And they are BIG weaknesses. 😢😢😢😢 I love the Vikings. With that said, I don't think 🤔 that my Vikings are going to be able to get more than 4 wins. Here's my reason, the quality of talent on both sides of the team. We gotten rid of Kirk and replaced his talent with Sam Darnold. Please don't think that I'm a Kirk fan I can care less. Bad enough our offensive line can't pass block but they are horrible at run blocking too. Our running game is not helping either, my Vikings running back only had 1 rushing TD. Sam Darnold is not going to thrive with our current offensive line so I'm expecting a lot of interceptions. And a angry Justin Jefferson. Now on to the defense, cause that's what wins championships. We've got rid of Danielle Hunter and replaced his talent with rookies and the unwanted players from the team we've traded him too. Also our secondary is full of non to average talented players. So we're going to be scored on a lot. Which now brings me to the coaching. Kevin O'Connell don't make in game adjustments. He also doesn't call more running plays. Kevin will have the first 2 plays throws and runs on 3rd down.

Can you guys stop with the labels? "Darnold Defender" "Kirk Stan" I just don't think that is conducive in our community it's putting us against eachother

What is there to defend even yet? Seems like they needed to fill the void that Kirk left, lol.

The comment about Matt Burke being politically polarizing. Would he be polarizing if he was on the liberal side?😊

Sam “I see ghosts” Darnold stunk majorly with the Jets and only had a small cup of coffee in Carolina. I seriously doubt he’ll succeed with the Vikings. Expect JJ McCarthy to take over in Game 2.

Darnolds supporting cast has never been great. He was signed specifically to help Purdy develop and be a solid backup. Now he's doing the same for us. He's a smart kid and hasn't received his proper chance.

@drbenway4 he didn't play with mcCaffrey, like I said he was signed as a backup. And the situation in Carolina was even worse. DJ moore was the only guy, so they were too one dimensional.
