I backed this razor as soon as I first saw it. As a head shaver, having a pivot for me is the best thing a razor can do, it makes head shaves easy and thoughtless…along the same lines as why the Leaf razor has such a strong following amount head shavers. The simplicity, the design, the pivot, and the fact that it uses DE blades and not some expensive limited-choice or proprietary blade is a massive win. Can’t wait to use mine. Great review Matt, appreciate the honesty, have a good day 🙏👏

Personally, I think it’s a great razor, great concept, like you mentioned. This is what I feel the OneBlade should have been. They dropped the ball and High Proof ran with the opportunity. Pricing is about right I’d say for the quality of machine work, and I’d be glad to back them!

Hey Matt! This razor is a very similar concept to the OneBlade. It has two distinct advantages...you can use any double edge blade not proprietary ones, and it is far easier to load than OneBlade. I hope the company does well with their kick starter program.

This razor intrigued me when I learned of it just before the Kickstarter opened, so I backed it on day one. It looks like a better Oneblade in that it does not take a unique pricey blade. The down side is that I wish it was stainless. I ordered one one the first day so the pricing was not too bad, but I think the MSRP for an aluminum razor is kind of high. I can’t wait to give it a spin. Have a great weekend.

As a person that still uses carts (on occasion) and also doesn't hate cartridges due to the fact that I don't suffer irritation from them, I think it's a great idea. Simply it's a cartridge style razor with the ability to use a preferred blade which we all know makes a huge difference. The ability to use a preferred blade is the deal breaker IMO. Imagine being forced to use a disliked blade in a DE razor as opposed to a preferred one and we'd soon see similar complaints like the ones we see about cartridges. Some people just can't get to grips with forming a fixed angle with a DE razor so this combines the increased security against cuts and nics but with being able to use a blade that is far superior to those used in cartridges. My only issue is the price, which I feel would discourage people from moving away from cartridges. If they were able to reduce the cost of the razor itself this might help. That being said there's no doubt the company has a good idea as well as providing a good quality razor. I certainly wish them well for the future.

I just recently switched to DE razors 2 weeks ago. This caught my eye during the Kickstarter. The main thing that made me hesitant you also mention in this video, ability to easily predict where the edge is. With cartridge razors I struggled with detailing and now i switched to DE it is so effortless. Having full cutting power on one edge that i can see is so nice. This design was super tempting for simplicity though. If leaf adds a swiveling head to the twig i might consider that but for now enjoying DE razors for a while but looks like a lot of innovation happening to simplify it with SE. Will keep an eye on the market.

This does look like a cool razor. My primary razors are more traditional DEs, but I've been using a Leaf for the past couple of years when I'm feeling lazy. When I use the Leaf, I only use one or two blades in it, because 3 just seems like overkill and I experienced a bit of burning when I tried 3 blades. I also got a Twig a few months ago, which helps get into tight spots like under my nose that my DEs or Leaf can't really get into well. Things I like about this design are that the head looks a lot narrower than the Leaf, so getting into tight spots would be easier. Plus, unlike the Twig this one swivels.

I bought one because I want to transition to using DE blades; I like the cost and variety. I would have purchased the OneBlade, but the proprietary blades, albeit the fabled Feather, was not what I wanted. I suspect that this will be an interim step to a Twig/Thorn. I like the idea of a single edge; no confusion and don’t have to worry about balancing the two-sides. Use a half of a DE twice, then into the safety receptacle. Also, my dad used a Shick single edge injector…I want to pay homage to his shaving experience! Thank you! As always very informative.

Morning Matt. Great shave and evaluation of the High Proof SE razor. Everyone that I have viewed that was evaluating this razor had nothing but praise. IMO this razor being USA made is a plus, next using non-proprietary blades a plus, the use of new technology in holding the blade in place with magnets a plus. I know that these guys are not the first to use magnets, but their use makes for ease of loading is great. Personally I don't care for the pivoting head. Maybe some of the cartridge users will see this as a way to switch to a cheaper way to shave. I wish them well in their endeavor. The price point that they choose will be very important in this competitive market. Thanks again Matt.

I’m sitting here like a kid waiting for Christmas for the prospector razor to hit my mailbox. This high proof razor looks nice, but not for me. I’m a bigger fan of the older stuff or at least razors that look like older stuff

@@davec1768 I will definitely write that down. I do however have two Thiers Issard razors, two (possibly three) Gold Dollar razors, two antique razors (one belonging to my grandfather). The one that is currently in the rotation is one from, I’m guessing, 60-70 years old from the the Alberts grocery store (now ACME). My Dove is up next in the rotation.

Well I had Gillette Adjustable back when they sold for less then pocket change. The I would buy a real Double Blade made of good metal. This looks like gimmick.

I have a Leaf, which gives me a choice of using one, two, or three blades, has a pivoting head, can use any double edge blades of your choice, has embeded magnets, and a better price point. So why would I want to buy this High Proof razor?

The high proof razor is probably not going to be for me. I did support the Kickstarter. I think we need as many safety razors as possible to help convert the masses.

'As a head shaver' does not make you exceptional. it's not necessary to have a pivot at all. The same as it's not required in order to shave your face. You need practice and patience is all. Technique trumps tools. Magnets have several drawbacks, and if you live in the armpit of Texas you have 2 of them. Heat and humidity. I'd not trust a DE blade held with a magnet over one i could screw down. T

There is nothing new here. Focus and Leaf did this years ago (pivoting head, razor blade snapped in two, single edge). Also, there are people here comparing it to the Oneblade but they are different razors. The Oneblade uses single edge blades not safety razor blades, and the Oneblade is far easier to load than the kickstarter razor or the ones that I’ve mentioned. Snapping a safer razor in two then taking the head apart to fit the half blade is not “far easier” than simply sliding in a SE blade in the Oneblade.

Nice review Matt👍, shave too🪒🪒 Where do we start with this razor, what makes it different from the Twig, Thorn and Leaf, Focus or One Blade concept? I guess "different strokes for different folks" is a good thing and it will eventually come down to cost. Seems to work just fine but magnetic incorporation steers me clear. Thanks for the video, interesting razor. Enjoy!
