There will be some side to side movement on the con rod, but there should not be any up and down. With the obvious corrosion on the crank I would not hesitate to strip it. I agree with you that it looks as though it was in very good condition before it was stored and the water got in. Good luck with it, hope you manage to sort it. For information, the crankshaft main bearings are lubricated by the gearbox oil, there are oil seals on the 'inside' of the mains, if you understand me, sealing them from the crankcase. The engine oil lubs the big and little ends and the piston only.

@tonym480 Thanks for being the voice of reason Tony, deep down inside i know that's the right thing to do just not sure if it's beyond. The main worry being both getting the clutch off and getting it back on securely when I'm rebuilding it. Thanks also for the info re the mains, i don't why I assumed they were lubed by the oil in the 'charge'. That what i love above these projects, good folk are so often generous with their knowledge and you end up learning so much. :)

Refirbished crank vs new crank from germany (plus postage) roughly the same cost of £90. I've done both options. That piston looks really nice actually from waht I can see- no scoring- looks like never been seized... But a big end break down WILL pot hole your piston and cause a little havoc. Trust me, I've been there.

@blurredman I’ve cleaned it up and it’s very good to be honest. My go to place is Ost2rad.com at the moment (though any other recommendations are greatly appreciated!) I think they were quoting around £100 for a crank so the cost isn’t terrible, I think the concern is a lack of experience and the tools for pulling the clutch, primary gear and splitting the cases etc

@@BikingChap I use MZ-B. But I've bought a crankshaft from e-Bay before. All seemed fine. If you were closer- i'd lend you my physical expertise, as it is- you can only have my thoughts

@@Blurredman thanks for that, I may reach out if i get stuck! I don’t know why I overlooked MZ-B, that’s where i originally bought bits for my two TS-150s I had. At the time they were a bit cheaper than OST too. Thanks again.

@JA3llis that would be an absolute godsend, I’m not daft but it’s all the little wrinkles and tools that would make it SO much easier. I was just trying to get some money and special tools together before I filmed the next bit!
