I have fixed many eBay finds over the past few years. I love Kato but even they aren't immune to being poorly maintained. Great video, Peter!

In 60+ years of servicing electric motors NEVER have I lubricated the commentator, never. Bearings receive lubrication, not commentator. With any lubrication, sooner or later the gaps between segments fill with brush material. That causes excessive arcing, eventually shorting the commentator. They can be cleaned with a contact cleaner, gaps cleaned, then reassembled DRY.
