Kayaks have been ridiculously overbuilt since about the mid 70s when rotomolded PU began. I started with 2 fiberglass slalom kayaks I built while in high school. One weighed 40 lb, the other 28 lb. Good competition slalom kayaks were Kevlar/Carbon & weighed about 12 lb if that. Before my time kayaks were a canvas skin on a cedar frame. They were generally home built for next to nothing & were extremely light weight. Like lift it up onto your shoulder with one hand and carry it 200m the the water light. Now they cost thousands and you need a heavy duty mechanical device to get on & off your SUV & a cart costing over a hundred to wheel it 20m to the water. Love progress.

Cars were cheaper and lighter too. Heck, I remember when we used to pull a dray into town with a horse but now everyone has to pay $70,000.00 for a pickup truck and $80.00 to fill it up with gas... I remember when you could go out west and stake a claim and build a house but now you have to buy land and pay a construction company to build a house AND you have to have it inspected and pass code... I remember when we used to be able to own slaves who did all the hard work around the property but now I have to work a 40 hour week with no medical insurance for someone's business and do all the work around the property by myself... I remember when you could shoot someone for trespassing but now you go to prison for it... I sure wish it was the way it used to be... "Love progress"

Man after my own heart. 😂🤣. I put in a new rear hatch in the back of my yak yesterday and sat down with a beer and repented of my sins. Lol. Gonna a buy a trailer also.

I load my kayak almost like the 1st guy. Except I lean the front over the rail and lift the rear up and push it forward. A piece of cardboard or carpet helps.
