Ғылым және технология

Can I round and polish fluorescent rocks in rotary rock tumbler and will they keep their glow? Rocks before and after tumbling. Start to finish process.

I cut and make jewellery out of many random stones, but man I need to get some of these. I've heard of yoopralite (from the great lakes region), but nothing about the stones your using. How many more stones shine under UV, I think all rock hounds should carry a UV light on them. I feel this is something that needs way more research. Keep up the good work dude.

Hey meMiner, I’ve been to the same zinc mine in Ontario twice before, once in 2012 and another time in 2018. Good on you for keeping the name to yourself and protecting it from the masses. Interesting you were told not to record video, I’ve recorded video myself with the owner present. That mine does have molybdenite (muh-lib-den-ite), which looks very similar to graphite, but with a very very slight twinge of purple. I don’t think the sphalerite from there should fluoresce at all, from the video I think it might be reflection from the UV light- but I could be wrong on that. The yellow fluorescent specks are chondrodite, which should also be a pale yellow themselves when you look at them in visible light. The blue specks are diopside. The red matrix is calcite; the host rock is a marble. And the blue streaks, what some people call lightning bolts, are aragonite. It is fun to see the little pieces of pyrite embedded in the rock, and some of them can have some pretty interesting shapes. I know some people in the fluorescent mineral hobby who say the rocks from this locality aren’t much, aren’t that cool. And while I will admit, as a mineralogist this locality is not the most exciting, the rocks are positively beautiful under UV light. Just because they aren’t bright doesn’t mean they are less beautiful. Thanks for showing their beauty to a broad audience!

DUDE! Now that some beautiful and cool rocks right there, that UV light really makes them glow...... I have just a regular black light, and the one's that have iron in them or red fluorite glows a light blue, that yellow I don't know what that is, but they are so beautiful. I really enjoyed this video, it made me laugh at some parts. I hope it's not too cold up there for you, and we down South are still running our A.C's, well at least your tumbler didn't freeze this time. I hope you and your family have a great day, and may they be blessed too. Cya

Hello meMiner, first time viewer, new subscriber. Those stones are awesome, I have had an interest in the lapidary hobby since I was a kid but I would say that you have definitely heightened my interest even more. Keep up the great work! I don't know if you are the type to name your more precious stones but if you are I think *"The Universe In Stone"* would make an appropriate moniker for the largest one. That was my first thought when you turned on the UV lamp.

It's always fun to tag along with you. The weather here has been terrible. Record breaking rain for months on end. I guess that means lots to find when the rivers subside. I am on my last batch of tumblers. All petrified wood. Both barrels. I want to send you some pics if you are inclined. Maybe even swap a few stones? I think it'd be cool to have one or 2 of yours. You, thirst, rookie, Marlaina, and old guy are my heros. It would be way cool to be able to have a keeper from all of you so I will have to up my game to find worthy trading stock. I do have a few from Marlaina "so I got that going for me". Take care me Miner.

It drove my wife nuts because I had them tumbling in the furnace room downstairs. I didn't want to deal with freezing outside. It does take a while to tumble with a rotary tumbler. I should get a vibratory tumbler to speed up step 3 & 4
