@DiggingForHealth
Жыл бұрын
Really? I found it kind of relaxing to process. I played crossword puzzles while removing the kernels from the cob. I might be weird though. It's a definite possibility, lol. 🤣 Coming from a logical standpoint, I can buy organic popcorn kernels for very reasonable prices so I probably won't ever dedicate a large area of the garden to popcorn but it's good to know that I can grow my own! 😊💕🍿
girl whatttt!? all of those cobbs were gorgeous! 😍😍 thanks for doing the info about drying it, too! would you grow your own popcorn again??
@DiggingForHealth
Жыл бұрын
I thought so too! They're so pretty! I've gone back and forth on the popcorn thing. On one hand popcorn kernels are really cheap from the grocery store, even when organic, and the corn stalks take up a decent sized area in the garden but there is something really satisfying about growing my own. So to answer your question I think I will continue to grow a small patch in the garden but only if I don't have something else I would rather plant there. I'm glad I know how easy it is to grow now!

Good to know! I'll make sure to keep an eye on it. I've definitely been making an effort to make sure everything was really dry before I even put it in the container with the silica packets so fingers crossed that works. This is my first time with my own popcorn though so I'm a novice at it. I just need it to make it to February for #50dollarfebruary2023 and I'll be all set. 😆

Glass gem corn is so pretty! I’ve always wanted to grow it as popcorn, but it’s interesting to see how it compares to the other varieties. Is there any noticeable difference in flavor between the types that you tried?
@DiggingForHealth
Жыл бұрын
I agree! It's so pretty! I didn't notice a big difference in flavor, maybe slightly denser but not so much that if someone handed me a bowl that I would notice a difference in flavor. Thank you so much for stopping by and watching!
Interesting popping test...gem definitely did better in the microwave...is there any difference in how the popcorn vs the Flint corn grows...is it worth growing Flint instead of popcorn 🍿...I really loved the little ears of corn 🤗
@DiggingForHealth
Жыл бұрын
I treated them exactly the same when growing and I didn't notice any difference there but if your end goal is to grow your own popcorn I would stick to actual popcorn varieties because glass gem doesn't compare when it comes to how well the popcorn pops but if you want to grow a corn that can be popped, made into a flour, and is pretty enough for decoration then glass gem is great! Thank you so much for watching!
i really dont think they will but lets see

I wonder if the Glass Gem can be nixtamalized, for nixtamal, or hominy? I realize that’s normally done with dent corn, and truthfully I don’t know the difference. Anyway, just wondering if anybody knows. If it can, that could be a possible use for it beyond just decoration.
