Will everyone exposed to Asbestos get sick?
Weitz & Luxenberg Mesothelioma lawyer Leonard F. Feldman sits down with Dr. Daniel Dupont, a seasoned veteran of the medical fight against Mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, to answer questions routinely asked by our clients.
No law firm has recovered more money for victims of asbestos than Weitz & Luxenberg, PC.
Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos. There is no cure for mesothelioma. Conventional treatments offer some comfort and extend the life of the victim. Gene therapy utilizes immune response to fight mesothelioma cancer. Either killing the meso directly, or making it more likely to be defeated by conventional treatments.

My father got diagnosed with Mesothelioma and he's now in ICU. He was a secretary - mostly working in an asbestos-isolated environment, rather then a manual worker. DO NOT MESS WITH ASBESTOS & DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE TELLING YOU THE OPPOSITE. Pray for my dad please 🥺 UPDATE: My beloved father passed away nearly 5 days after this post. Please, pray for him and don't forget him and all the sufferes of this nasty material, regardless of your spiritual background.

There is something that can be done to help, big time- do not smoke, or QUIT immediately if you do. I've just begun to learn about this horrible stuff, and the first important bit of information I took from the safety guides in mediating and minimizing the damage after finding out exposure has likely occured is to obviously get away from it but to not smoke- because allegedly smoking increases risks of developing asbestos related disease by up to 90X, which is 90 thousand percent. That's a lot, even if it's only double, that's still a lot. Too much to gamble with, or rationalize one more smoke for..

Masks no-no-and-no, first it takes microscopely small asbestos fibers to get down into your lungs and our lungs/bodies are very good at keeping them out, however when you wear anything less effective than a HEPA filtered respirator with an air-tight seal all you are doing is stopping the large fiber and dust particles that trigger our bodies defenses while still letting all the little lottery tickets of death in. This is why OSHA does not allow "masks" including N95 respirators for use with asbestos. They actually increase the risk of lung cancer/mesothelioma while also increasing the risk of slips, trips, falls, and other accidents that kill far more construction workers than asbestos related diseases.

If the immune system fails to remove it, making that a factor of the damages that can lead to cancer, how can nanobots help? How long would the nanobots need to get it out, before getting destroyed by the lung which can destroy any foreign object, but asbestos? Or how can you make the nanobots destroy this super material without damaging the lung further?

Asbestos is usually found in millboard, siding, duct insulation, floor tiles, drywall tape and joint compound, sprayed-on "popcorn" acoustic material, and in roofing materials. Asbestos insulation was really only used for lagging of steam pipes. So the fibrous insulation you see in the wall is not likely to be asbestos. So, your house may have asbestos, but it's probably not where you think it is.

Asbestos is an off-white or grey colour. For domestic applications where I live, it's typically used in its fibrous form or bound by some other materials to make solid products or other compounds. I don't know if there was any processing or oxidation that could have turned it into a black powder like that. I'd say chances are high that wasn't asbestos, however, it wouldn't hurt to take special note of your lungs at your upcoming checkups, especially if you do this kind of work regularly. Investing in a quality respirator and filters could also be a good idea.

They can't do the breathing tests to find out what my lung capacity is now due to covid, which is understandable, you don't want loads of people breathing in and out of the same machine or other equipment used to measure breathing. It took them from 2004 until 2018 to finally diagnose my Dad's breathing problems as asbestosis and by that time he had 12 months left. If it is confirmed and given what I saw with my Dad I think it will get me around 2034 @ at 69, not the 75 my Dad managed. The statistics are this: 2-5% of people who had repeated, heavy exposure to friable/loose asbestos fibers will develop mesothelioma. We are talking breathing in clouds of it for years. 10% will develop asbestosis. 15-20% will have lung scarring sufficient enought to slightly but permanently reduce lung function but not cause progressive disease. Yes we need to be careful with it. But if you have a couple of small exposures randomly throughout your life, its basically a 99% chance you are going to be COMPLETELY fine. Every human naturally inhales about 5,000,000 asbestos fibers a year through normal air, asbestos is in the rocks and dirt and flies around naturally. People need to not freak out if they learned that had a single exposure, you are going to be fine.

People need to not freak out if they learned that had a single exposure, you are going to be fine.

we all have inhaled asbestos from nature and in small amounts else where but for the 99 percent not enougth to impact our health, a unlucky few can develop cancer from low exposure, but for most folk they will be ok, think about how many tens of thousands worked in farms factories and buildings containing it for years and never developed anything from it, so dont let it play on your mind.

Unless you are going messing with asbestos containing materials, you are not going to be sick just from being in a building with asbestos. The only exception is loose fill/friable asbestos material that can get easily airborne and contaminate the entire structure.

@@jaffacalling53 the asbestos in the building I work in is, at this point - airborne. Walls everywhere continue to crumble into chunks on the floor which are chalky and powdery... it gets stepped on, swept up... airborne. Not to mention the lead paint on the walls. Mind you, when I started working there 32+ years ago, the building was already 35-40 years old. So I've been breathing this stuff in since I was 22; I'm now 54. I'm a 54 yr old female, 5'3", 108lbs and athough I've always personally been proactive with my health, I've had cancer twice in early 2000's, and I also live with stage 3 chronic kidney disease.. had 2 small strokes due to a congenital heart defect.. etc. I can't wait to get the heck out of there.. that place is no bueno

@@jaffacalling53 Thank you for your comment. Yes, I live in the US. As a matter of fact, someone recently told me while I was at work.. "haven't you been working here for like "forever?" to which I replied, "yes, over 3 decades." He pointed out the crumbling walls to me and said this old building's full of asbestos to which I again replied, "oh yes.. I'm well aware." He said, (which I've heard of) "you should contact an attorney - there's been lawsuits filed by thousands of people who've received alot of money due to long-term asbestos exposure.. which could, and does - lead to mesothelioma." That's an option. And ironically about 2 months ago, a man came to our office (government building) and was there all day with a special device and equipment walking around everywhere doing stuff. Long story short (long!) - he was measuring the amount of asbestos and lead in the walls and the building's overall structure. So word is now within 1-2 years or so, we will be getting a brand new office - built new from the ground up in a close, but different location. Ahh, the timing...just in time for me to retire (enter sarcasm😉) We've needed a new building for decades. I'll probably get to experience the new one for a year or so, give or take - before I retire. Cheers ✌🏽💚

Not much point yet unless you have respiratory symptoms. In at least 10 years, you can get a low dose CT scan perhaps. The reason being is likely nothing will show up now on your exam since it takes a decade or more for anything anything asbestos related to show up in the lungs.
