what is the difference between btc and fiat money? both based on trust

One is trust on governments, that has a track record to rise and fall in every few centuries and even decades. The other one is trust on math and it has been around and constantly improving for millennia 😁

Fund managers are obligated to buy bitcoin because of their diversification doctrine. Mathematically, the risk of adding 1-3% BTC to a 60/40 portfolio is shown to improve the portfolio's sharpe ratio i.e. better risk-to-reward. From crypto bro POV, Boon Tee's "staying out completely" is the most legendary form of diamond handing. On-chain data shows some guy selling 10-years-old BTC bought when the price was a few dollars. Maybe Boon Tee is that person.

Name me one fund manager who has bought bitcoin because of diversification doctrine

@@BoonTee Fidelity All-in-One ETFs product page under their crypto section states "Get strategic exposure to crypto (1-3%, depending on the fund) for added diversification. Keeping a small allocation to crypto in your portfolio can give you the potential for higher returns and serve as a hedge against traditional markets." Ark Invest Annual Big Ideas 2024 report under Bitcoin states "Bitcoin's historically low correlation with traditional asset classes is increasing its role as a source of diversification. Adding a noncorrelated asset to portfolios potentially increases returns per unit of risk and provides a buffer against market downturns. " Fund managers don't need to justify why they add BTC. They have to justify why they DON'T want the improved risk-to-reward by adding 1% bitcoin. Soon, most ppl will just have proxy BTC exposure through the SP500 anyway.

@@DonkiDonkey Good one. I have never heard of these funds before. Total 4 funds AUM USD1.5bn with average 3% allocation to crypto, so USD 51 mn exposure.

@@BoonTee Yep 4 funds for now. Plus COIN/MSTR potential listing on SP500. Even passive funds eventually get their cut.

Think we all can. Look this as an experiment. Kelvin lost a lot of money in LUNA. A lot of ppl lost money in it . BTC we can also consider also the same. Problem for me crypto is 75% of my total portfolio. The gains blow my other investments out of the water….😅😅😅😅

Nice discussion as usual. As someone invested in crypto, i particularly agree with CK's points. The idea is really not to take the extremes. For this case, i mean never be 100% in crypto but at the same time never be 100% against it. The fact remains that Bitcoin has been around for 15 years and there is still a market for it. If u understand Lindy effect and Metcalfe's law, u should understand why u should not dismiss it totally. On the point of why Josh is buying ETH for his kids, i think he is probably trying to earmark it as something meant for the long-term so he can better resist the urges to sell due to short-term fluctuations :)

BTC already controlled by a few US companies and hedge funds. I see it holding its value within a range then after the halving most likely rocket up to next leg again.

yes. because programmers and coders are soon going to lose their jobs to open AI agents . then they will be forced to liquidate just to feed themselves and pay rent.

Why I think BTC is here to stay to Kelvin’s point of BTC being green curry I think it’s not so apt. BTC should be more of like an ingredient. Maybe at first BTC is like beansprout, if shortage or no supply doesn’t really matter. But if 1 day BTC becomes chicken, like during covid, suddenly no more fresh chicken supply, and u had to eat pork or fish instead. It’s not so easily acceptable by the community, it’s become part of the system that cannot say remove and just remove already.

Using the green curry analogy versus what many like to say about BTC/crypto, “I don’t like Thai Green curry because it’s eaten by criminals and money launderers”. When people take the time to listen to your perspective about Thai green curry so to undestand more about it, then you say something like this, it’s very insulting especially if there are some listeners who love Thai Green Curry. If one don’t like to eat Thai Green curry and say for example like don’t know what is inside Thai green curry and I got no time to find out also, so I don’t eat it. Listeners will ahhhhh ok ok understand. This way, invite friendly discussions rather than putting people off.

While btc can now be considered as a recognised commodity, it is still not a viable currency for trading/transaction in our daily lives. Imagine how would be business price his product if the currency fluctuates a few percent on a daily basis. Regardless of how btc believer feels and think, it is at this moment still just a speculative asset. Yes, it is fact that criminals are using btc for money laundering. Ziet is not wrong.
