    @@EuropeanRailfanAlt It's unbelievable how Boeing is just hanging in on a small silken string with its whole existence. A decade ago I would have laughed about such a comment. These days a single catastrophe, that hopefully will never happen, could seal Boeing's existence. And it wouldn't serve anyone. I truly hope that Embraer can make a move up to 737 and 320 capacities, without having to face US protectionism like Bombardier did. A third design in the market is more than justified considering the overall order numbers.

    Boeing is also one of the biggest defense contractors in the US and the biggest aircraft manufacturer in the US. I don't know if I can even trust the government to be impartial regarding Boeing because of the "too big to fail" problem here.

    AA had a big influence on why Boeing re-engined the 737. Boeing was on the fence between re-engining the 737 vs making a clean sheet, and Boeing decided to re-engine the 737 because that’s what AA wanted

    ​@@kral3046 is probably a bad thing, and Boeing should just create a new clean sheet design instead of re-engining the 737, which is a 60 year old platform, so there's not much space left for future technology to be added to 737 hull

    A company such as Boeing has a problem when instead of designing a brand new aircraft (and afraid of how fast Airbus is selling a revolutionary A320Neo), they start creating a monster (old 737 frames+heavy engines+software to compensate the compromised balance). Just to save time. We all know what happened next: loss of lives and reputation for ever gone of an american icon. Fast forward, the mafia who rules the money game just suicided the whistle-blower. Personally, I have a problem with all of the above.

You, the producer, are responsible for the product you deliver. YOU, and nobody else! Boeing went from being run by the engineers and being the gold standard in aviation safety to being run by wall street type finance people who put profit over quality and safety which is totally and utterly unacceptable!

    Here's hoping Boeing does everything they can (but without rushing or cheats) to get FAA certification for the MAX 10 (and MAX 7). The last aircraft variant they got certified was the MAX 8-200, the high density MAX 8 operated by Ryanair.

    It's because of them and United as to why the Max even exists. Boeing was all set to do a clean sheet replacement when both American and United bragged that they were buying a next generation of 737 to replace their fleets of the NG.

    Glad to see Embraer being included in a large order. The scope clause needs to be amended in order to take the E2 series into account. Especially considering the payment raises that even the pilots of the regional airlines got. What is the point of being stuck with inefficient aircraft due to work clauses? Pilots and airlines have to make a sensible move and update it.

    I mean the A330 Neo was designed for long distances AND short to medium distances with high loads which is common in Asia. For example in Japan 747 were or are used on like 2-3 hour flights. Airbus designed the Neo for these kind of flights. But I agree the competitor for the 737 is the A320. The A330 Neo Could be a replacement for high in demand medium haul flights using a 767 previously.

    I wouldn’t fly on a MAX of any type so I won’t be using American etc. I just booked a flight for two weeks from now and it’s JETBLUE. Why? It’s because they don’t use Boeing’s. It wasn’t the cheapest but it ensured I wouldn’t be on a Boeing

    The order is a publicity stunt. The large order only indicates that American Airlines will eventually accept delivery of some airliners. The result of the order will change dramatically over time.

    Even with the recent problems flying has never been safer, including on Boeing planes. That being said, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make Boeing pay a “safety fee” for every plane to the FAA, which in turn will hire extra inspectors to follow the manufacturing process and not be Boeing employees.

    That has to be a MASSIVE discount offered by Boeing right there. TBH if I get a deal on 100 aircraft for the price of 50, I then at least know I can pick the planes that work and with any luck it might be 1 or 2 more than the 50 I could've otherwise had.

    That’s the dumbest move American Airlines could’ve ever possibly made. I can tell you right now I’m not flying on their airline anymore. If American Airlines has so little regard for safety that they would buy a death trap like the max then it makes me wonder how safe I would be on any of their airplanes.

    Boeing sold these CHEAP to get this order. AA already has a huge Airbus fleet, and it’s very common to re-certify pilots. In fact, a few AA pilot buddies have told me there’s MANY more pilots getting Airbus certified than the other way around…

    But isn’t American trying to get rid of its old Airbus planes? Their pilots would simply be migrating between two types that are produced by the same manufacturer, so this would be easier than a Boeing pilot migrating to Airbus or vice versa.

    Weird, in Mexican Airlines like Mexicana and AeroMexico, the DC10 and 737 MAX have flown without issue . Maybe y’all need to step up your airline maintenance game.

    American can use some of their MAX 10’s to eventually replace the older A321’s on ‘in the box’ routes. I can see them using the 10’s on overland routes.

    @@davidlima2352 For domestic routes that are not coast to coast or to Hawaii, I can see MAX 10’s replacing them on some routes. Not on every A321 route you need the additional range.

    American Airline just placing their orders in now, they can always kick the can down the line until everything blows over. And if this mythical 797 ever gets announced, probably switching the order to those. Not sure what is there to regret?

    I only fly 737 with helmet on till they introduce a replacement that they should develop 40 years ago. If you know anything about micky mouse undercarriage, cargo handling, engine displacement and concealing software. I am a verry old guy but i care. Bring up a 757 wit improved wings.

    I heard in one of aviation channel that another flaw is found by FAA on MAX electrical system related to vital surface control that could render the jet uncontrolable. It says that will not cost Boeing much to fix the flaw however this makes people wonder what else flaw hiden in the MAX that both Boeing & FFA have no idea about. I was not selective on the choice of aircraft when traveling oversea. Can get along with both Air bus or Boeing but frankly speaking, this recent news about Boeing quality issue makes me bit scared to fly on its jet.

    Man, to think Boeing used to be ahead of everyone on engineering and quality by leaps and bounds. Now, in just 20 years its reputation is spoiling due to the bean counters and mbas who put profit over great machines. Sucks. Maybe I will take the airbus now.

    i agree, but the line of assembly has long been replaced with the 787, it would just be too much work and money to get the ancient lines back up, if boeing could, im sure that they would have brought the 757 production line back by now…

    Boeing has massive orders already, the problem is that they are taking too long to deliver the aircrafts to airlines. So American Airlines is gonna be waiting on these planes for quite a while given the massive backlog Boeing currently has.

    They should have made a new platform instead of reenging the old 737 platform. I understand that airlines would have been faced with higher costs since the pilots would have needed new typeratings but 737max is just pushing the limits of the platform
