Wilkin's is a demon of peer pressure who sells his mercenary services to the highest bidder (I base this off the fact that Jim Henson , who was not a cofee drinker, said that when making these commercials he asked himself what it would take to get him to drink coffee). Also Wilkins has also done other products.

My mother was a copywriter and producer at an ad agency (Henderson, in Greenville) in South Carolina at the time. She tried to persuade the agency and a client to buy a package of Muppet ads that were available, but they didn't. I can't recall who her employer's client was ... but i clearly remember that the Muppet ads were picked up by Claussen Bakeries: "Trees fall on people who don't like Claussen's Bread!"

Yes, Jim produced variations of the "Wilkins" spots for other clients- including the "tree falling" routine: WILLKINS: "Do you drink Wilkins Coffee?" WONTKINS: "NO!!!!" **a tree next to him (bearing a "Wilkins Coffee" sign) falls in half, hitting him across the nose** WONTKINS: "OOOOH!!!!" WILLKINS: "Things just seem to happen to people who don't drink Wilkins!"

One of the characters is named Wilkins, and in one commercial, Wontkins actually acknowledges Mr. Wilkins. I wonder if he ever noticed this or the fact that his "friend" has the same name as the coffee he hates. Though I wonder if the two were ever referred to by name in any commercials.

Never heard of it

The first four were videotaped [preserved on kinescope film]- the rest are filmed (and Henson produced the majority of these 10 second spots on film).

Meanwhile Kermit is sipping some tea somewhere, but that's none of my business.

Wilkins was a real loathsome bastard. Sadism aside, no caring soul would want someone to drink the revolting filth that is instant coffee. Nostalgia Critic team had the right idea: the frog knows it's poison, and he'll stop at nothing to force that poison down our gullets.

Dang, these are pretty brutal considering they aired in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The electric chair gag especially.
