I grew up in Wilkes-Barre (saw my old house in this video!) and it used to be a great place for a family. Since gentrification in bigger cities like New York priced out all the people that could previously afford somewhere to live, most moved inward to NEPA and brought some bad elements with them. Almost all of the people I grew up with have moved out to surrounding areas just to get away from the crime. You read the local news sites and it’s all murder and drugs. Sometimes I really miss what that place used to be and the life I lived there.

I've driven these little streets a lot, they are poor white people. But the city is dominated by housing projects and violent black and latin gangs like most of the Poconos. Pittsburgh is also so dangerous the police officially announced that they won't respond to 911 calls any more. I have lived and owned in both places.

I grew up in Wilkes-Barre but haven’t lived there for decades. I remember it being a great place to live so it’s depressing to see how run down or boarded up so many places are. Things have changed, including combining GAR, Coughlin and Meyers into one school. That’s just mind-boggling to me. Each school had massive amounts of students when I lived there.

Seems like there's not going to be a good rivalry like Meyers football and g.a.r football Meyers could have been saved same with gar and coughlin if they sent 12 million dollars on a new school then they could have saved them school s but no it pisses me off but what you know the mayor is trash and so is school district as well

Truth. I went to Meyers back in high school and there was a home on Corlear that used to be very well taken care of by this retired couple. I guess after they passed or sold the property, it was bought by some losers who wrecked everything. I saw it was later abandoned and boarded up with garbage all over the yard. I just looked on Maps, and it's been torn down. Such a shame because they were such nice people who took such great care of the property.

Unfortunately I live close to this dying city right up the road in Wilkes Barre Twp....although my end of town is ok let's face it...Wilkes Barre is dead as a city...it makes no money to stay above water because of having so many section eight people and other people who don't pay taxes (you know who you are)....plus countless absentee landlords who just wanted to get out of here. Once upon a time Wilkes Barre was a well known part of the industrial revolution ....

I see alot of hispanics moving in trying to renovate houses and rent them out . Bringing bussinesses. The problem isbthat the mayor needs to start cracking down on all these slum lords that jist want the rent but dont want to fix anything granted you do ha e your renters that are disgusting and piggish . I simply hate it here. I want to leave but with the rent prices oit of control you cant find a decent place to go too. Alot of these houses really need to get knocked down and rebuilt. If it was done in newark new jersey wherw im from which helped in alot of areas get rid of crime then it can be done here. They just dont want to. This town is depressing

All the people saying Wilkes Barre not bad, nor hood, personally I think are just out of touch with the streets and oblivious to whats going on around them lmao I know first hand, because I was part of the problem years ago lol by the grace of god did a complete 180 in my life, and a complete different person these days. But I can say for certain theres alot of bad shit that goes down in this little city. I remember seeing years ago, there was a national poll done on the worst cities in the country based off homicide, and drug related crimes via per capita. (And it has certainly gotten worse since then) Wilkes Barre ranked like 2 cities below Compton😂 it seems a much smaller scale, because it is. There are far less people in this little area, so it doesnt seem as bad, or the ones that live here are just used to it. But if you look at the crime rates vs the population of people here, it's actually terrible😫😂

I live outside of wilkes-barre now and the city is a mess. That is just one of many ghetto neighborhoods. The entire town is being taken over by inner city trash. They’re bringing crime and inner city problems to a city that doesn’t need them. On top of it the politicians and completely corrupt. The people pay insanely high taxes and the roads are a mess. You can’t drive without hitting a pothole. The long time residents are all either moving back into the mountains or leaving g the state entirely. I’ll be in the perfect leaving the state in the next few years.
