VS of launching of large German ship, the Scharnhorst on 3 October 1936. Lots of Nazi salutes as the ship slides down off the stocks into the water. The superstructure of the ship has not yet been constructed.

Mit Atlantik Bug sieht die sowieso sehr schöne Scharenhorst noch Schnittiger aus, und bei den Erprobungsfahrten wurden über 35 Knoten gemessen, für ein Schiff dieser Größenordnung selbst heute noch eine sehr hohe Geschwindigkeit!

Scharnhorst looks really strange without her atlantic bow
Some years later they had to completely redesign the bow because it shipped too much water over the forward area of the warship. It was so bad that the forward turret couldn't be fired.
