Annotation prompts for Wilfred Owen's 'Dulce et Decorum Est'.
'Dulce et Decorum Est' concentrates on the suffering of soldiers, during World War 1, on the battlefield. The soldiers are extremely tired, returning from battle, when a gas attack happens. Owen describes the harrowing events that unfold. The title (Latin) means "it is sweet and right".
Wilfred Owen is recognised as one of the greatest World War One poets. 'Dulce et Decorum Est' is arguably Wilfred Owen's most famous anti-war poem. The line "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori" is Latin and translates, 'it is sweet and right to die for your country'. It derives from Horace's Odes (III.2.13) -- a Roman lyrical poet.

It is a recurring dream or nightmare. The speaker cannot rid himself of the thoughts of this soldier who suffered the gas attack. The speaker sees the dying soldier plunging towards him in agony.
