Wilford The Bear! The Beloved Behemoth Returns In 2024

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Wilford! The beloved behemoth returns in 2024 in the Angeles National Forest. Hunky, hefty and healthy as can be as he journeys through the creek, stomp marking and rubbing on a familiar oak tree.
This is about the fifth year I’ve been watching him. Bears like Wilford do not hibernate in these lower elevations. They have everything they need and my cameras see them year round.
In the spring and summer months, he loses a lot of weight as he forages less and travels more while searching for a mate. Then in the fall and winter months, he starts to pack on the pounds again, as you can see in this video.
The Wilford story continues.
New music by Grandaddy “Cabin In My Mind” from the album Blu Wav.

He doesn't look like he'd be fast enough to catch anything but I'm obviously wrong as he doesn't look like he's missing any meals. Love him!

These black bears are not predators. The only thing they might chase, is another male bear over territory.

"Biologically speaking, black bears are omnivores but they are primarily vegetarians. Black bears are opportunistic feeders and are quite lazy when it comes to finding food. "-From MWDFP site.

All bears, brown or black species can run full speed for miles on end. Their cardio is better than deer or elk when hungry.

25-30 years ago there was a bear in the Barley Flats area called Samson. He was the biggest bear ive ever seen. I think he also ate the care taker of the Catholic Retreat ( decommissioned Nike Missle Site). The care taker most likely died.of a diabetic attack while hiking. Hunters found his skull and gave it to a Forest Ranger. Believe me. The Forest Ranger himself told me about it.

Each Feb 2nd since Wilford arrived in my life via trailcam I wonder about how this bear is doing and what that means for the coming year. (Instead of looking up whether some overhyped woodchuck back East saw its' shadow.)

Wilfred didn’t even lose a pound over the non-existent “winter.” He has a body like a hairy Bartlett pear.

He actually roams around all year, and he loses weight in the spring and summer months during mating season.
