Wilesco D405 First Steaming

The first steaming of my 2nd hand WIlesco D405. When I recorded this video I was unsure which model it was, at it had been sold to be as a D415. Thanks to Daniel Stafford for his informed comment I now know!

Beautiful. I too have the D40 "Made in West Germany". Just ordered some tires after seeing how good yours looks.

John I put grease on all the cogs even the small ones down the side I used a small artist paint brush to get it on and you will get a smoother run and prevent alot of wear

It's a d405 if it helps, d415 is self assembly. You can tell the difference by the useof bolts on the d415 instead of rivets. I have just built a d415 for my son.

John, I do not have so clear after reading to Roly that it is a genuine encyclopedia of steam. He has a Wilesco tractor identical to yours, and it's called D40. I've been watching the D405 kit to mount one and that is, now it's the D405 but the truth I do not know when the change of denomination is about. It is essentially yours to be manufactured from 80 until the end of the 90s. But Wilesco does not provide as much information or on its own website. rolywilliams.com/Wilesco%20D40.html

D40 is the early product, D405 is ready built, D415 is the kit.

Ok, John! I can talk about how little I know, I have a D36 as you know how well it comes in the box and the model is like that yours blue but the only difference is that my locomotive has a sticker attached to the left, round of Wilesco and not the long one that carries your tractor on the right side of the driving cabin (my modern D365 does take that long sticker). Although it seems that it is a bit it's not that, does your sticker place W. Germany or just Germany? I think it's a good way to date your blueita as D40 or D405, my two Old Smokey are like that ... W. Germany the D36 and D365 Germany but now this decade, with very few months of manufacturing (I guess). The one of Roly takes the sticker on the side, and he called it D40!

In this case it has not been very difficult to figure out that you have a great tractor Wilesco D40, without third digit. In fact there are very new units that take the system of direction anchored to a support similar to that of the D36 bulldozers (like mine damaged), but the later D40 are like yours, the D405 (ready to use) and the D415 are later, and with the handles of the whistle and steam valve in black plastic (although with Wilesco everything can be).www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wilesco-Live-Steam-D40-Traction-Engine-Boxed/352301806526?hash=item5206d2f3be:g:5UQAAOSwC-Jao~dA

@Turn it depends upon where in the world you live. Wilesco sell in Europe and new engines are readily available. Amazon, eBay are two good options.
