Wildcat X and 1000 Starter Upgrade pt.1 - Why its needed and disassembly

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a 5 part series showing how to do the starter upgrade to your Arctic Cat Wildcat 1000 or X model. 2013.5-2014 X models seem to be the most problematic for the case breaking, but all 1000/X models pre-2016 will also benefit from the gear upgrade from my understanding. I had not seen a good video on how to complete this upgrade so I wanted to put this together for others that are wanting info or on the fence about doing this upgrade. After seeing the condition of my starter gears, I highly recommend it. I also put together a quick and easy way to beef up the starter gear boss without welding. Below is a list of the part numbers needed
1- Starter Motor & Gear Upgrade kit - Arctic Cat 0825-032 2- Starter Clutch - Arctic Cat 0802-035 3- Puller - Arctic Cat 0444-254 or equivalent with crank saver 4- Bearing to make a sleeve from - 6204RS - Can be had in many different brands. Mine was $9.99 at a local parts store.

Thanks! I know i had to do some research to figure all this out when i bought the machine. I was hoping the video series would make it easier for people to know what tools and parts they needed to do the job, and what the job consists of.

@@CumminsDriver well based on your views, you have helped thousands of people. And its greatly appreciated. I have a 2015 and learned that they strengthened the case from watching this. And also the part number that I can check if my starter has already been upgraded. Going to open it up and check, fingers crossed 🤞 🤣

They have some common quirks, the main one being the steering. The factory steering “slider” is a terrible setup. If you’re in any mud/dirt at all, it is worn out after 1k miles which causes for harder steering that can bind and have tight spots in it. There is an upgrade that is about $800, or you can build the kit yourself for about $300 which is what I plan to do for mine. The bevel gears wear out over time, but it’s partly dependent on how you use the machine. Some people go 1k miles and need them and others go 10k. I inspected the bevels on my machine and they looked new with 1100 miles on them. You have to pull the engine to replace them. There is a rear axle upgrade to larger bearings and rear hubs but in my opinion from what I have seen, it’s not needed except for if you’re really banging it around hard on rocks or sliding it sideways at high speed a lot or if you have the big heavy 4 seater. We do a lot of slower trails and rock crawling with 30” tires and no one in our group ever broke an axle/hub. Overall they are a pretty good machine in my opinion. The suspension is great and I like the driveline fitment better than the rzr I had. My recommendation is just to find one that has been taken good care of without real high miles and don’t over pay for it because resell isn’t great. Good luck with your purchase and let me know if you have more questions 👍🏻

My 2018 has a oil leak coming from the starter. My exhaust is different so its going to be much more difficult to fix.

Good vid quick question what did you do about the oil when you put it back together?

I kept it clean in there, so I ran it a little bit and then changed the oil

It runs in oil but doesn’t really hold much oil in the case when it’s not running
