CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Jim (Will Smith) and Artemus (Kevin Kline) discover Spider Canyon and the mechanical beast that lives within.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Yet another TV series is revived for the big screen, as Will Smith and Kevin Kline join forces as James T. West and Artemus Gordon, the most sophisticated government agents of the 1860's, in the film adaptation of The Wild Wild West. West and Gordon represent two opposite ends of the personality scale: West is a smooth-talking charmer and man of action who prefers to shoot first and ask questions much, much later; while Gordon is intensely methodical and cerebral, with a genius for gadgets and mechanical innovations. They're brought together by no less an authority than the President of the United States to track down an evil genius named Dr. Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh). Loveless was once an honored military leader and inventor until one of his schemes went awry and left him paralyzed from the waist down. Driven mad by the experience, Loveless is determined to get revenge on the United States by assassinating the President, using a 60-foot tall mechanical spider. Assisting Loveless is a team of beautiful female criminals, Miss East (Bai Ling), Amazonia (Frederique Van Der Wal), Munitia (Musetta Vander) and Miss Lippenreider (Sofia Eng). As the initially suspicious West and Gordon learn to work together, they also find themselves helped by an attractive woman, Rita Escobar (Salma Hayek), who has her own bone to pick with Loveless. Wild Wild West reunites star Will Smith with director Barry Sonnenfeld, who previously worked together on the hit Men In Black (1997). Wild Wild West features a hip-hop theme song from one-time Fresh Prince Smith, along with a more traditional Western score from composer Elmer Bernstein.

There`s something about that spider walker that just makes it look believable. For example. The fact that the very tip of each leg contracts in when it touches the ground and the joints adjust to absorb the weight. The designers really took all the mechanical aspects into consideration.

@@imperialmarchinhumanbowels5726 Yes, it's a joke. It's from a story Kevin Smith told about a meeting he had with Jon Peters, a producer on the Wild Wild West movie, to write the screenplay for the movie Superman Lives that never got made. As Kevin was pitching his ideas for the movie, Peters told Kevin that he had three requirements for the movie: Superman couldn't wear his suit, he couldn't ever fly, and he had to fight a giant spider. Kevin thought the first two were obviously ridiculous, but he was curious about the third so he asked Jon Peters why Superman had to fight a giant spider, he said because spiders are the fiercest killers in the insect kingdom.

If you were only 3 years old in 1999, then you really don't know what the 90s era was actually like. Just because you were born in the 90s, that doesn't mean you actually remember that decade. You came in at the tail-end of it. That doesn't count.

Yeah, and he looks back on that as being the worst decision he ever made in his career. At the same time, he thinks it worked out for the best because he thought Keanu was "brilliant" as Neo and that he would have messed up the role . Also, had he been cast in the role, the studio would have gone to Val Kilmer for Morpheus, which would have deprived audiences of Laurence Fishburne's iconic performance. So, even though Will admits it was a bad move, he doesn't necessarily regret it.

It's funny, people sometimes say movies like these have better effects than they do today, but you're actually wrong. It's not even subjective or an entitled opinion, it's just your general bias talking trash. It's actually very far from the quality we get today of digital visual effects. Jurassic Park was extremely well done, but it's is actually not nearly as good as the recent one in terms of quality of the computer graphics work. The spider in this movie is less detailed and less complicated than you can see even in TV series these days. It's just a fact.

CGI is so good these days that, in a lot of movies, you can't even tell you're looking at CGI anymore. The only time you 'notice' the CGI is when it's bad, leading people to believe that current CGI sucks, when that couldn't be farther from the truth. CGI these days is so great and blends in so well that you can't tell it apart from palpable objects, people don't even realize it's there.
