Hops, in addition to providing flavor and aroma to quality beers, are a natural sedative. Steep the dried flowers with some wild mint (and whatever sweetener you prefer) for perfect sleepy-time tea.

Worked planting, training, picking Hops for a number of years on local farms here in the UK.But sadly it's an all but dead business now due to cheaper imports.Back in the day we were the main growers and exporters of Hops.Picking was always the last week in August first week in September. The Hops would go into Oast houses to be laid on beds of sulphur to dry.Binds of Hops are still used to decorate local pubs.People make Hop pillows to aid a restful nights sleep.

Nice find! If my dad were still around, I could ask him about your hops. He was the brew master in our family. I was born in Milwaukee with a German heritage so beer making is in my blood, problem is I never cared for the stuff. You should make a video brewing your first batch! Cheers🍺

Many acres of hops are grown not far from where I live. It's big business out those farms - all used for brewing beer, but there are reported medicinal uses as well. Nice look at finding them in the wild. Cheers.

There are some 600 species of wild hops...No way to tell what you got there with out a test. I do know from experience that hops go thru a special cure, and must be picked at exactly the right time to avoid extreme bitterness. Good luck if you brew a batch. Makes me want to mix up a batch of my strawberry ale! Great video - thanks for sharing! Be well!

that's a supper find. go back to that spot each year if you start brewing beer. nice move pulling it off the tree too, since the vine dies back each year anyway.

I have grown hops, and seen them cultivated, but never seen them in the wild. That's a nice find. I've never heard of hops tea.. I would imagine it would take a lot of sugar to counteract the bitter taste of the hops. If they are any good for brewing, besides beer, mead (honey wine) is also made with hops.

I grow hops and use them as a bitter, or flavor in brewing beer, completely dried for 3 years for the yellow resin for a lambic wine, it's a preservative

'probably' not good for homebrew' beer, I've tried many times, wild hops are just kinda 'sketchy' use them as TEA or if they aren't very bitter stuff a trout with them and grill it, yummy flavor (don't eat the hops tho) nice find

I didn't know hops was a vine plant. My 1st thought was wow hops grows wild in Alaska but you're in Michigan & there used to be a farm there. So blueberries grow wild there & Alaska? I thought I've seen other ppl point them out, most definitely the red berries & blackberries in Alaska. Now I wonder if I can find wild blueberries here in NorCal. I got alot to learn,I've been in the rat race too long. Hope itz not too late.

If the cones are brown, they are of no use. Developed cones need to be dried so they don't rot. Is there yellow powder stuff inside? You might find a home brewer with knowledge about hops. Basically there are two styles of hops, bittering and flavor. There are true wild hops, and there are cultivated hops that have found their way to grow in the wilds. Generally you cant tell what they are without a lab tests. That means $$, for a small patch it would be a lot of work for little reward. Question: do they taste bitter? Very bitter?

A good read is: For the Love of Hops by Stan Hieronymus. Might be available at a public library. Explains growing and harvesting. Keep the site in mind for next year.

If you do drink alcohol, but aren't fond of beer, it is probably the hops you don't like. Beer has been made since the stone age, but hops only found their way into England in 1420(ish)...

was it really necessary to rip down the vine? Would not call that ethical harvesting and where's the respect for the plant - they are sentient, plants, show some respect. Maybe that's why they're grabbing at your feathers.
