Wild cockatoos in my front yard

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hand feeding some wild cockatoos that came to visit. I try not to encourage cockys to visit, I usually chase them off. They can become a huge pain in the neck. I generally just feed the smaller native parrots that visit like galahs, king parrots and crimson rosellas.

    Feed them once & they will come back everyday with a very pronounced sense of entitlement. And bring all their mates. As long as you are feeding the wild bird seed mix that you can buy in just about any supermarket, its all good.

    Irish Bengal you obviously don’t know a thing about parrots diets, seeds and nuts are like junk food , if the human A keep feeding them then they will come back , they are smart animals , why go forge for nutritional food when you can have there favorites handed to you ? And don’t get me started on pet stores , birds don’t belong as pets . You should look up the exotic animal trade and aww how these poor creatures are ripped from the wild for a profit.

  • @Slone1329

    @Slone1329

    Irish Bengal actually I volunteer at a bird rescue I’ve seen the how being in captivity buts stress on them , if you feed you bird only nuts and seeds I highly doubt your bird is healthy I’ve have done enough research and talk to parrot specialist, to know at least some what about parrots , Even for seed-eating birds, seeds alone are not a proper diet. There are several reasons for this: The seeds we offer our companion birds are not the same seeds they would find in their native habitats. We tend to offer seeds that are lower in protein and other nutrients, such as vitamins. The amount of energy used by wild birds in foraging for food is far greater than that used by our companion birds. Since our pet birds use less energy, they need to eat fewer calories or they will become overweight. Eating less, however, could result in vitamin, mineral, and other nutrient deficiencies. When offered seeds, our companion birds tend to pick out their favorites, and leave the rest. Limiting the diet to only several types of seeds can lead to certain nutrient deficiencies. As for my hippy bull shit , wild Adult parrots are free to mate whenever they want , you can’t do that in captivity, yes you can do the hormone implants which are pricy , you could let them mate and take away the eggs, but isent that cruel in itself? Students with birds said this the best Cockatoos are the worst when it comes to hormones, hands-down. Just consult mytoos.com for some horror stories of people whose sweet baby birds grow up into rampaging hormonal terrors. Other birds are also affected badly. Every year, brace yourself for bites, mate-guarding, screaming - even plucking. This is not something we can change. It can be helped through diet, but not entirely cured. THIS is the reason so many parrots lose their homes. This is the reason rescues exist today , we have only 40 parrots in our care some have plucked there self almost bald , we have one wild caught who was never handled only uses as a breed tool, when he is scared if he makes the most saddest noises, parrots were born to fly free I don’t know what got you why you are so angry about this to resort to name calling. we obviously have the some compassion about these lovely creatures Your birds need regular check ups A balanced diet ( see bird tricks cook book) And pellets And I’m truly thankful you decided to adopt. Have a blessed day

    In a wild situation the other birds come afterwards and pickup the crumbs the cockatoos leave behind. Cockatoos will break up oak acorns and other big seeds, apples , corn cobs ,potatoes leave plenty to be picked by less equipped birds later.

    2 hours west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains , Australia. I don't feed them very often, they can become a pest and can be very destructive. King Parrots come to visit and will sit on my hand to feed. I'll have to up-load a video on that...

You think that is good for them?. .Healthy for them?... If you think they are doing a good thing for the cockatoos, then you are an idiot...
