Very good topic, Sarah! I would like to share my experience. My chicken run is enclosed security tight. Unfortunately I let my chickens do a lot of backyard field trips. As you would call them. Lol unfortunately I have lost six birds within two months time. The wild birds carry, other diseases that Some may not think about. Newcastle, fowlpox, and the one that hit my flock verybadly,.Mareks disease. They were not vaccinated for this. Going forward I will vaccinate. It can spread in the air, and in their dander. It was heartbreaking and devastating to watch each girl slowly waste away due to this illness. It attacks their organs and grows tumors, and shuts down their body , inability to walk, eat and drink. Once it’s in your flock, it’s there until you start over with a new flock, you will have to do deep clean and wait several months before the infection hopefully is out of your chicken run and coop. Thank you so much for your videos.❤

Yes I think so! But watch for mold as it can get rotten. Use a rake to stir it up and consider adding something like barn lime. ✌🏻❤️🐓

Sara, I have a question. I am in a panic. I introduced my chicks to my grown hens on Father’s Day. I have all of them eating starter feed. My babies are eight weeks old. Do I just have all of the chickens eat starter feed until the babies are 18 weeks old? And what about the calcium supplement? I have removed it because all over the Internet it says that calcium damage the chickens, kidneys. But it also says that my large hen laying chickens must have the calcium supplement. I don’t know what to do. I don’t have any way to keep their feed separate from each other. They are all in together and they are all free ranging also. Please please help me Sara. God bless you. I will look forward to hearing from you.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏

Hey there - I say leave out the calcium. Grown hens will be ok temporarily, just may have weak egg shells. About the feed, do the best you can to get scraps or layer feed to the full grown ones even if it’s only while you’re out there for a few minutes. Can you separate the littles until everyone is full grown or at least a teenager?
