I feel like Johnston is a real miracle, like a statue that really cries. No trickery, no snake oil, just an impossible vessel full of light for others to translate.

You look at Daniel Johnston with all his challenges, working at McDonald's handing out cassettes. It would be easy to dismiss him, but that's a mistake because he made this beautiful thing.

The thing that makes me saddest is that the one who wrote the song never found true love. Not romantically. But maybe in the form of the love of his fans. Still, I feel pretty sure he was singing about romantic love.

Daniel (Danny) Johnston was my childhood chum. It makes me sad to see how he is only a fraction of the person I knew as a teenager. I remember playing his songs and me strumming along on my guitar. Mental illness sucks. I wish I could bring my friend back the way he was all those years ago. I would sit next to him at his piano in his parents basement. His mother would make us lunch. I have a lot of memories of him. I remember those days like it was yesterday. Wilco did a great job on this song.

This is too polished to feel any emotion. The song has to be raw like the original, with its flaws and all.

I was planning on singing this song at my highschools talent show, its senior year and i actually have a decent way of playing and singing this i think. Have to do it solo though. Its still a few months away but wish me luck.

His music is like Blaze Foley... An absolutely brilliant songwriter whos obscurity was eclipsed by the greats who covered his songs.

Outstanding version of this beautiful song. One of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard. My heart feels every note of this song.

It's a beautiful song and Wilco really shine a bright light here on Daniel's incredible songwriting. Also, apparently 36 people did not find true love in the end...

Cry every time. Daniel is my spirit animal. He didn't just sing a song, he cut his heart open and bled it.
