When I traveled to senegal this winter I stayed in a small mandinka village and I love the language! Unfortunately all i can remember is 'abarka' which is like thank you.

I am from Burkina Faso and speak Dioula and Bambara and I can understand him. Mandinka is literally diffrent

Also many Kongo people from present day Congo were also enslaved in South Carolina and nearby states

For some reason, the occasional use of English words reminds me of Hindi, not Tagalog.

Yaa Moremi Queen they r different names for the same ethnic group , in guinea they r malinke,maninka, dioula in ivory coast, mandingo in liberia, bambara in mali, I believe there is some intelligibility between the dialects, but some r closer than other

They the same language, called different names in different countries. The most powerful and diverse tribe in Africa found in % over 15 countries that shows they were ruling in west Africa over 400yrs, from empiro sunjata to sonny ali. Most of slaves in America are mandinkas and manding tribes due to west Africa as their homes .

That doesn’t sound nothing like Mandinka, how can a small country like the Gambia with a small population, surrounded by a whole another country with it’s own language (Senegal) dominate the narrative of a whole ethnic group. A group that is 10 times larger than the population of Gambia? Blame it on the European’s history books. This language you are speaking is not the Mandinka language spoken by the Mandinka people in Mali, Guinea & Côte d’Ivoire (the larger population), even the traditional music don’t sound the same 🤦🏾‍♂️ They really did a number on us in the history books This language you are using is a dialect with a fusion of Wolof from Senegal, definitely doesn’t sound like anything from the Mandinka Tribe. You guys branding it as Mandinka create a really big confusion that has nothing to do with the large Mandinka population in Guinea 🇬🇳, Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮 and Mali 🇲🇱 and has nothing to do with Wassoulou Culture. It’s really confusing. The dialect being used in this language sounds like Wolof from Senegal, how can it be Mandinka if the larger population of Mandinka people don’t speak Wolof?, if we the large Mandinka population don’t speak Wolof or understand what you’re saying, how can this be Mandinka? They definitely got us in the history book SMH🤦🏾‍♂️. ---- It’s very different, sound like they created a creole with mixture of Wolof from Senegal and they’re calling it Mandinka, which none of us Mandinkas understand, they should rebrand their language and stop calling it Mandinka since it’s a mixture of Wolof, it’s very confusing.

There is no mandinka in Guinea or cote voir the people calling themselves mandinka in Guinea 🇬🇳 are Susu not mandinka and the ones in Ivory Coast are called Dyula people and in mali 🇲🇱 you have bambara people, you have mandinka people I'm Gambia and in northern sennegal between the border of senegal with Mali in a region call Tamba and parts of southern senegal and the Gambia 🇬🇲 and Guinea bissau 🇬🇼 these were the people who ruled and govern most of this area in around 12 to 13 most of the people who called themselves mandinkas are Susu people who turns themselves into mandinkas.. in those countries you have the mixture of susu or bambara with mandinka language... we have the original mandinka language that is spoken up to date the only mixture you would find in our language is some Arabic words ....and Latin words....most of population of Guinea is susu or do not mix it up with mandinka...when the people of ivory Coast or Dyula which mean trader in mandinka speaks we can understand them and also from mali you have mandinkas whom we can understand 100 percent but a susu can't understand a mandinka language that much he or she can understand few words or sentences ....that's the different ..and culturally we are some how different because we normally send our kids to Madarasas or at Karanta at an early age so that's why if you meet with any real mandinka we would be able to read the whole quran for you ...not everyone who speaks mandinka is a real mandinka... wolof is different from mandika not even the same language like susu is different from mandinka because by then in olden days they were all under the areas we control and parts of Mauritania but when manding empire fells the wolofs and fula people have gain the autonomy to rule themselves and the mandinkas living in those areas continued to live under wolfs but by then the whole Gambia and senegal was govern by the Kings and generals from the central government in Manding now called Mali even present day Guinea bissau was govern by manding empire in those days around 12 to 13 century downwards .....

This is totally different from wollof if you can't understand just keep that. We're mandinkas I don't know where you get what you're from, ask any wollof whether this mandinka is slightly close to wollof and secondly mandinka language is not only spoken in The Gambia but the cassamace region of Senegal and some parts of Guinea Bissau so get that.
