What impresses me the most isn't even the graphics or gameplay. It's the attention to character detail. Character react to each other when they pass one another. Both in body language and in facial expression. Clearly they're showing off the Mario Kart TV feature and how it'll capture dynamic videos. If you toss a shell, the camera will follow the shell to its target then seamlessly go back to your character cheering happily as he/she passes by. I can't wait to see the crazy videos people come up with in this game.

Absolutely mind blowing, I can't believe how stunning this looks. From first playing the series on the N64 as a kid. Being able to see the true vision, how it was all meant to be, right now in this trailer is an absolute treasure. Seeing and hearing Rainbow Road remastered in such a way brings a sense of nostalgia that only Nintendo can achieve. May you live on forever Nintendo and keep up your legacy of bringing joy and precious moments to everyone. Fantastic!

Ik I wanted it when I was gonna get another GBA game but I ended up getting Kirby Superstar Ultra for the DS.

I still get so emotional at 1:05. The music just brings back so many memories. and the end when they take off and cut out the sound effects and voices and all you hear is the music, so beautiful. Love nintendo

I still come to watch this trailer from time to time and shed tears of pure joy when the Rainbow Road section kicks in. I still remember the feeling when I watched this live during E3 2014. Will never forget.

@Better Toonami Edits You know how in the other games triple shells and triple bananas circle around you and block shells? They don’t circle around you in this game or in Double Dash. Meaning you’ll have to actually place them behind you right before the shell hits.

@Better Toonami Edits Are you talking about Double Dash? Triple shells are an item only Koopa and Paratroopa can pull (and King Boo/Petey Piranha, but they can pull any item).

They could seriously extend Rainbow Road to make each lap last 15 minutes and I'D STILL PLAY IT CONSTANTLY

I think that Rainbow Road shown may actually be the updated version of the N64 Rainbow Road. Nintendo said that two Rainbow Roads will feature in this game, one of them being the N64 one updated, and that they did something "truly special" for the new one. So they wouldn't likely show off the new one in that video. What we saw there was probably Rainbow Road 64. Also notice the music - it's from the N64 game but with updated instruments.

I love how the characters' faces show emotion. Even Mario and Luigi's mustaches are effected by the wind.

How far games have come since I was a kid. Only Nintendo can bring me back to my childhood feels.

God damn Mario Kart 8 looks amazing. I almost cried when I heard a remix version of N64 Rainbow Road. This looks like the best game in the franchise.

I love how you completely redesigned the old Courses to match into Mario Kart 8. I am so hyped for this!

The transition from Mario Kart Stadium to N64 Rainbow road music wise gives me goosebumps every god damn time!

This is coming out on the last day of school. I know what i'm doing this summer... raging because a blue shell hit me.

I never really paid much attention to the music in Mario Kart games, but ever since 7 I realized just how catchy these songs are.

I teared up a little with that rearranged Rainbow Road music from the n64, it's like my childhood returning to me in wonder. Man, I need to get this game.

People have nostalgia for Mario Kart 8. The most recent game. Nostalgia. Nintendo...

Best 2 1/4 minutes of my life..... So far

No matter what genre they're doing, Nintendo go out of their way to make a fantastic presentation. That's dedication right there.

I cried my soul out when Rainbow Road from the N64 and it's music remix came out in this one. That melody is the hymn of my childhood, the best time in my life so far, I was like 7 or 8 when I first played a Mario Kart game so now that I'm 25... heck, nostalgia at it fineness

Seeing N64's Rainbow Road remade with the music gives me goosebumps every time I see and hear it :D

The music and that remastered N64 Rainbow Road is what sold me on making a preorder on this game. Not to mention that this'll possibly be the best looking a Wii U game to date.

The Music is amazing starting at 0:48.

back in april 2014 when i first saw this trailer i remember how excited i got about toad's turnpike returning in mario kart 8 that was one of my favorite courses in mario lart 64 as retro track

I'm oddly excited for Shy Guy. I LOVED playing as him in Mario Tennis. Shy Guy is possibly the most adorable "baddy" in the Mario Games. His voice...oh gosh, his voice. Anyways, I'm excited!

Omg hearing the rainbow road theme while seeing the N64 track in all it's HD glory is mindblowing. Need the game NOW

I can't even tell you how exciting this made me! The graphics, music, track designs, even that Rainbow Road from MK64! I think its safe to say this will be the big Wii U game of the season. And its right near the end of the school year before summer break!

Super Mario Galaxy 2 brought back so many memories with Throwback Galaxy and now Nintendo finally brings back one of the best moments of my childhood again with N64 Rainbow Road... these tears of joy have a very good reason to be here now.

1:05 to 1:09 - it just took 4 notes to make me buy a Wii U back in the day.

A day late, but this is the trailer that made me decide to get Mario Kart 8 on launch day, May 30, 2014. I originally wanted to hold off from buying it, because I wasn't enticed enough to get it launch day since I didn't have a job at the time, and saving up $65 wasn't going to be easy. After seeing this trailer, I began to save up money immediately, and used the $15 I had to pre-order the game the next day, since Friday I had time. When this game officially launched, I remember waking up very early, and handling everything I had to do so that I could focus on playing Mario Kart. I was so amazed by the game, the graphics were stunning, the anti-gravity was splendid! When I finally made it up to N64 Rainbow Road, I was shaking with excitement, because after the long waiting, I could finally race on the stage that made decide to buy this game at launch. No matter how much time has passed, I'm still in awe at the beauty of this stage, and I shed a tear of excitement every single time I see this trailer. It means so much to me, and Nintendo created the most PERFECT Mario Kart trailer that I had ever seen before in my life. That's the beauty of Nintendo 😍

This game looks the most "next gen" out of any game the PS4 or X1 has released so far.

I can not believe I thought that the new version of the N64 Rainbow Road was the new one. Can't wait to see what the new one looks like.

i know graphics aren't everything, but this looks amazing. and they said the wii u was underpowered. this pretty much proves that the gap between the ps4 and the wii u isn't as big as the gap between the ps3 and the wii

I remember watching this trailer for the first time. I nearly started crying when Rainbow Road 64 appeared and its music started playing. (if only it was 2 laps long it would be perfect)

I've been looping this for the past 30 minutes.

I am really digging that Jazzy Rainbow Road remix. It really bring a lot of memories playing Mario Kart: Double Dash with my family and friends. Yes I do know that this Rainbow Road is a hyped up version from the N64 but, I have more awesome moments playing DD.

the first time i saw this trailer i was drunk, my younger brother told me "look at the new trailer"! ..when I looked at the rainbow road of the n64 and listened to its music I just started crying. thank you so much nintendo

When the n64 rainbow road song hit me I started to tear up, great job Nintendo.... great job:')

For the longest time, I just got Mario Kart games without thinking much of it beforehand. This one is the first game in the series since Double Dash that legitimately has me hyped for the game.

GODAMMIT!! I have to say, that every Mario Kart 8 trailer never, ever fails to impress me. They've taken full advantage of the HD using a lot realistic lighting and shadows, the frame rate is perfect even in the 2-player mode, the roster is looking amazing with the new and old characters returning (besides Metal Mario who's decided to waste another character slot on the roster), the audiences and Toads on the sides of the tracks watching the race actually look real, the new items look awesome, the anti gravity effect has been used BIG TIME, WOO MAMA, YOU NAME IT!! Bring the races on those Nintendo! You all know I'm ready to put my feet on those motorbike pedals again...

When MK64 Rainbow Road theme started playing, I actually teared up. Thank you, Nintendo for bringing back the best of the best for 2014.

I literally sat here for almost 15 minutes trying to put my excitement into words, and couldn't do it, so... I'll just say this. xD

As a Mario Kart superfan, since the very first game, I'm completely overwhelmed, it even got my heart racing... the attention to detail in the design and the phenomenal soundtrack nearly bring me to tears. What an outstanding job Nintendo!

I actually find these graphics more appealing than games like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty. In those games they try so hard to look realistic when ultimately it can look kind of pixely and not unique. Nintendo actually has a certain style for Mario, and the bright, polished look really works well.

Because realism isn't what matters- art direction and design is. You can have a realistic game be aesthetically garbage (same with pixely games, hand-drawn games, etc). It's all about balance and professionalism when it comes to looking good.

Just remember that this is the N64 Rainbow Road which is a retro track, who knows what the other Rainbow Road would look like.

The rainbow road music in this just tossed me back into the 90s. Can't explain how excited I am for this.

The reveal of N64 Rainbow Road is still pretty special for me, like we already knew N64 RR gonna come back and it's magical

I have a serious complaint to make about this game. It isn't being released until the end of May!
