The pike is confused because the bait fish looks right, it moves right, but there's no electrical current coming from it. The same electrical current that all living things produce, i.e. bioelectricity.

Pike should have been named "grumpies." They look so mad all the time. This one didn't look like it wanted to eat the zombie fish, it looked like it wanted to reprimand it for making too much noise.

When it did it’s test bite & nothing changes (even a half dead fish will try to dart away) it knew something wasn’t right but tried again & still no change but it wasn’t quite ready to just leave an easy meal. So it observed to see if anything would change… interesting video! Large mouth bass are the same way.

That Pike looks like one fierce critter 😮.

It always amazes me how the Pike in these videos are so cautious, they almost seem to be thinking long and hard about taking the lures at all. This one is more suspicious to the Pike because while it *looks* like a dead fish, it acts like a live fish. If that was a deadbait, the Pike wouldn't hesitate. If it was a more traditional lure that looked and acted like a live fish, less hesitation. To a Pike, this is Schrodinger's dinner. It's alive, and it's dead. And it acts and smells like neither of those things.
