Yes and especially in these times of pollution such as human waste because of faulty sewage pipelines (yes on Oahu on BIg I everywhere) and the pills people are prescribed by doctors in this doo doo is it any wonder sharks are all messed up. Seems one of many likely reasons. Overpopulation is creating the inability to contain human waste.

If your not a surfer or have no connection or can’t even pay attention to the video why make claims basically calling Perry stupid for going out? Kinda makes surfers like me and others I know frustrated when people think there know it alls about ocean safety when they haven’t gone in the ocean more then 3 times in their life.

Idk how many times I've seen hiking stories where people die of exposure,.or animal attacks, people surfing while ignoring postings, etc.. But I'm glad u can tell how smart I am by a youtube comment!

The risks of dying in the ocean is 100% higher if your passion is being in the ocean. Personally, I like to stand on the shore mesmerized by the power of the ocean. I will die one day, we all will, but I probably won't die in the ocean. Do what you love, because sitting on your couch afraid will kill you too.

Why don't they invest in more real-time drone observation? Wildlife becomes clearly visible from the sky. We'd then be able to keep track of both humans & wildlife, which would enable us to send in timely interventions or more immediate rescue response teams.

He knew the risks just as we all know the risks everyday we get in our cars and drive..

Many apex predators such as sharks usually do not target humans, as you can find many videos where people are swimming, oblivious to the nearby sharks ignoring them. If humans were on the menu, shark attacks would occur so frequently that most people would never go into the ocean. The saltwater crocodile is an apex predator that views humans or just about anything moving as a food source and will often attack if given the chance.

Condolences to Perry's family. Not to lessen the tragedy of his death, but 9 deaths in Hawaii in 30 years amongst thousands of surfers? Consider how many Hawaiians have died in collisions, robberies, or human involved incidents sharks are not even a minute cause of human deaths. Why does the media just leap on any chance to monsterize sharks (important members of our ocean ecosystem) when they have a very very very small impact on human deaths?
