Finite control is the opposite of fine control

I also noticed after you do the first major cut you do a minor return cut (or a climb cut) not deep enough for the writhing knife to be in the way. Is this also to help cool the blade between major cuts? Interesting technique.

It just reduces the necessity to produce deep cuts. The riving knife is setback 3" on the 10" and 4" on the 12". Helps cool the blade, reduces labour on the mill and guides the cuts straight from the previous cuts.

I don't understand why you have to lift 4mm for the other side. Does it mean the saw cuts on an angle? I do like your saw though. Very inventive.

No it still cuts flat. You can simply adjust the blade flat too.

All circular saws require a tilt on the bottom edger. Clearance for the hub.

When I do a double cut on my 8"manual with this exact process I get a flat perfect transition for the middle 3rd of the log, and then there are opposite ledges created on each end of the log. Could this be because my leg supports aren't sitting on identical slopes and therefore slightly twisting the beam from end to end?

It means the beam needs calibration at one end. You need to put a level on the top of each beam at each end and adjust the beam support bracket so they match.

Why do you go back and forth through the same cut multiple times? Can it cut 10" in one pass?

Yes, you can but it's not good practice. The blade tends to heat up and you are left with less accurate timber. The first cut guides the blade true. Other negative points to sawing horizontal in one pass: stress on belts, stress on gearbox, stress on the motor, sawdust extraction (heating the blade), and finally vibration during sawing. Swing-blade technology offers very eloquent solutions to many conventional problems during sawing.
