I have a feeling they’re going to be adding a lot of stuff from the books that was left out of the musical to justify doing two movies. The second act of the musical actually took place over almost a decade in the books.

The trailer barely gives anything away and wicked has been around for so long since broadway and wizard of oz and has several books you still are missing a lot trust me I’ve seen the broadway before

Ariana and Cynthia are going to be a great and fantastic duo

I'm really looking forward to this. Wicked is one of my favorite musicals of all time, and it's about time it got a film adaptation. Arianna Grande is perfect for this role.

Trailer shows a lot but I guess you need to give people who haven't seen the show a good idea of what is about, and if you have seen the show it doesn't matter. 😂

I think they were trying to sell to people who’ve seen the show on the movie. You’re worried about Ariana? Ok we’ll show lots of her Glinda. You’re worried about Dr dillamond? Here he is and it’s Peter Dinklage voicing him. You didn’t like the defying gravity riff? Ok here’s more of the song and it’s gorgeous

@yolandapaulino5952 yeah, I think they're using the book to pad out the second act more, that's what a hardcore fan told me. But I don't know if I like how they're not marketing it as two parts. Is that something audiences like, an unexpected cliffhanger??

Return to Oz gives a _much_ better feel of what Frank L Baum's books were like. He wrote some seriously weird stuff.

i thought it would be another generic film, but after seeing this trailer and researching the story i am simply obsessed and applauding the acting of those actors... hly shhh 🔥

Wicked is the first and only musical I’ve seen in person, I’m soooooo excited for this

Wicked isn't exactly a prequel, it is a reimagining of the Wicked Witch and the story of her and Glindas time at Shiz University. But that's just part one of the first book in the series. The events of The Wizard of Oz take place within the book Wicked and there is so much depth given to Oz. Political intrigue, religious dogma. I recommend it, great book. Then there are the sequel books Son of the Witch, A Lion Among Men and Out of Oz.

The cast is what caught my eye. We’ll see how this comes across in theaters. Also, really long trailer - I hope they didn’t show the best scenes

I don’t know anything about Wicked but I’m ready to hear Defying Gravity on the big screen.

Also guys if you didn’t know this is part 1 of 2. Part 2 should be released at around the same time next year and likely will be act 2 of the play 🙂

Oh boy, that must've been a hell of a shock if you were expecting this kind of Oz from the HBO Oz show. 😱

Looks so incredible. Can’t wait to see what they add to this from the books to flesh out the story even more. I’m getting shivers and tears already from what little music was played. I saw this in NYC when I was 16 and it was a core memory :-p

I watched The Wizard of Oz for the first time last year, I loved it, I've watched Return to Oz before when I was a kid, I was super confused and scared, I'm going to rewatch it one day to understand better. I'm at a time when I'm watching a lot of musicals, so I'm really looking forward to Wicked Part 1 and Part 2.

As a huge Wicked fan, I'm excited but still very cautiously optimistic. I've read the book & I've seen the show countless times. I've seen Cynthia in The Color Purple for which she won a Tony Award & she was fantastic in it! I'm still not sold on Ariana as Glinda, but we'll see.

@@caitlynskiff2001 Ariana was on Broadway ONCE when she was 15. And that was a loooong time ago in a galaxy that’s not even in this world. I don’t like that most people keep using that as their defense as to why she was cast. Yes, Ariana is talented but they should've chosen someone with a more legit Broadway sound. I've heard her sing Broadway before & it still sounds way too Pop-y for my taste. Like I said, I’m still excited but still very much cautiously optimistic. I’ll reserve judgement until I see the film.

Great trailer! This movie premieres on my birthday so I'm looking forward to celebrate with a night at the cinema! I've seen the London musical twice but the last time was five years ago so I don't remember enough to be comparing things in my mind.

Can't wait until they make an adaption of the musical Wicket, based on the character in Star Wars.

The novel is brilliant, and was one of my favourite of the books I read that year. Went to see the musical with some friends, and all I remember is that it looked pretty. Looking forward to seeing the movie, as it may have more of the novel in it.

Yeah, the show tones down the novel a LOT. I believe a lot of the Broadway show creators were involved with this too, so I'm interested to see how they do it.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are the perfect duo! You need to react to Cynthia singing, she’s absolutely amazing and she is a wonderful actress. She only needs an Oscar to get her EGOT, so hopefully she will get her Oscar for Wicked! Ariana has wanted to play Glenda forever so she shed the pop star and really gave her all to portray her. She’s really paying respect to Kristin Chenoweth who was the original Glenda, you can hear it in the way she’s speaking and also singing! Can’t wait for this movie 🍿

I get so giddy whenever I see Michelle Yeoh in a movie, she's absolutely phenomenal in every role she's given.

I saw Wicked pretty early on in it's Broadway run with all the original cast, except for Joel Grey as the Wizard. He was out that day, but his understudy did fine. One of my favorites. Loved Idina and Kristin and Leo as the mains. I really hope the movie doesn't screw anything up.

This will be the Movie inspired in the Musical (the actual Wicked production) inspired in the Movie (the Judy Garland one) inspired in the Musical (yeah, the classic movie was more inspired by the Stage play musical that they made first) inspired in the Book (the original Frank L Baum one).

I know most people are describing this as a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, but the story just isn’t. Dorothy’s complete arc finished in the second act as well. This is more like the “behind the scenes, what was actually happening in Oz not shown in the Wizard of Oz propaganda film.”

I’m skeptical, when I heard they were making this into a movie. I thought it’s too cartoony for movies. It may be bad like Cats was. However this trailer gives me a bit of hope.

The novel series was a quite interesting retelling, and the characters of the Wizards of Oz are basically unwitting pawns in a political assassination.

The only thing I didn't like about the trailer was that it gave away the entire plot it looks like, I've never seen it and am excited but I feel like I saw the whole movie plot in the trailer

I never saw the musical, but having read the series of books, this looks like a god awful bastardization. Might still be a decent movie, but just in the trailer, it appears as if the great character of Elphaba has been changed quite a bit, and unnecessarily as she is such a great character to begin with. This trailer took me from a "can't wait to see it" to "I will wait for it to be free on some streamer or another"

I hope this surprises me because so far im not particularly impressed. Love the theatre show but im just not sold on this and i think its because of ariana unfortunately. I think everyone (except her) is perfectly cast. Hopefully im wrong but we shall see.

I hope they get the political intrigue and metaphor right.

The musical is based on the novel "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire. Then, it got developed into a musical-meanwhile he released a sequel called "Son of a Witch". So, there is a potential for this to be a franchise, cover the broadway musical, but then do something like "Greatest Showman" and just release movie musicals as sequels. All based on the books.
