Wicked the musical was adapted from the novel (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West) from the 90s. Wicked has been running on Broadway since the early 2000s. It's the most popular modern musical. It doesn't really mess with the Wizard of Oz canon. Elphaba still does all of the evil wicked things she did during the Wizard of Oz. The show really dives into how most of the characters are morally grey. Yes, Elphaba was born green because her mom cheated on her father with someone and she drank a green elixer. It's such a beautiful show.

People seem to forget that The Wizard of Oz movie itself was a musical lol but yes, this is adapted from a broadway musical that was adapted from a book, so it keeps in the tradition of keeping Oz related movies musical (looking at you The Wiz)

It’s always so fascinating to watch people talk about something that they have no idea is a masterpiece. Wicked has a 20 year history on Broadway… Cythia Erivo won a Tony award for The Color Purple. (Watch her performance of I’m Here. Its breath taking) Ariana Grande began her career on Broadway and has won multiple Grammys. They’re not just pretty good singers, they’re 2 of the best on the planet. Hopefully you both give it a chance- it’s an amazing gateway musical for a lot of people.

Most of the setup was build like the train, school, parts of emerald city and also munchkin land and some parts of the yellow brick road, the tulips are Also real. Check out wicked - passion project it’s more behind the scenes
